A Good Look At Affiliate Marketing

Many new marketers get their start with making money online by jumping into affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing came about as a way for product owners to sell more of their product by allowing others (affiliates) to sell the product and receive a percentage of the sale. As an affiliate, if you decide to promote a product that sells for $47 with a 50% commission, that means you would make $23.50 from each one you sell.

Smart product owners are happy to have affiliates because affiliates can sell so much more of the product than the product owner can. Affiliates are like an army of sales people and their reach is so much further than one person’s.

Here are some of the ways affiliates market an affiliate product to potential buyers:

  • Pay Per Click ads
  • article marketing
  • adding bonuses to the sale
  • marketing to their list
  • website or blog with product reviews and content
  • selling it on the backend of an opt-in free pdf
  • YouTube videos
  • product creator interview
  • short podcast about the product
  • Squidoo lens

An affiliate does not make any money unless he or she sells the product. Think of it like an offline job where you work on commission instead of a salary. But the good news is you don’t have to be an affiliate for just one product, you can choose many products in your niche to market. For example, if you are in the weight loss niche, you can be an affiliate for many weight loss products and put all the product affiliate links on your site. You can have weight loss supplements, weight loss books, weight loss ebooks, weight loss online programs, weight loss videos, etc.

Why should you be an affiliate marketer?

Affiliate marketing is an excellent way to get started making money on the internet when you don’t have a lot of money to spend. You can do it without having your own website or you can use a free blog. You can promote the product with article marketing which costs you time but not money.

Another reason to market affiliate products is because it’s easier than creating your own. All the time has been spent, the research done, the product created, the sales page completed, and someone else will handle any problems. All that’s left is for you to sell it. This is great, especially if you are a beginner, because you don’t have to learn all that goes into creating a product and getting it ready for market.

What skills do you need?

The number one thing you need to learn is how to effectively market the product. Most marketers have an affiliate page where they have “tools” to make your job easier. This is an important consideration when picking an affiliate product. The more tools you have at your disposal, the sooner you can get started promoting. A good toolbox will have promo emails, keywords, your link, ebook covers, banners, signature links, articles, brandable PDFs and more.

Although you don’t have to have your own website, you will eventually want one so you have a platform on which to try a number of selling strategies. Having your own site will be necessary for building a list too.

What other strategies work well with affiliate marketing?

Go ahead and try your hand at affiliate marketing. There’s not a lot to lose and what you gain is knowledge on how to be an effective marketer plus some money in your bank account.

What Our Members Say

Dearest Janet

Thank you so very much, I only signed up with Wonderful Web Women yesterday
through a good friend of mine Ann Oliveri. It was just fabulous catching
the call this morning - I loved the fact that I could check out the webinar
online rather than the call this morning as I had my darling wee children
tearing around in the background demanding every item from the fridge.

Wow Ali was wonderful and you were fabulous Janet. you ladies are an
inspiration to a mother of 3 little ones living here on the Sunshine Coast
in Queensland . I am a proud kozzie..Kiwi / Ozzie . . . who has been
floundering for more than 5 years. Seriously suffered from information
overload. Having said this Ali was spot on when she said FOCUS FOCUS FOCUS
and one other vital thing . . . is ACTION!!! Focus is nothing without
ACTION. Well I have been playing with Hand Pouring my own candles now to
turn this into a serious viable business.

Love and Light
