Doing Audio Interviews With Experts in Your Niche

What are audio interviews?

You’ve seen those “play”, “pause” and “stop” buttons more and more often on blogs and websites. They’re cropping up everywhere entrepreneurial marketers can think to put them. Audio is not only here to stay, it’s now a hugely popular medium to present blog posts, website content, and paid product material.

Audio interviews with experts in your niche are one of the ways audio has taken off within the online marketing world. The interviews typically last an hour and can consist of your questions with the expert’s answers. Another way to do the interview is to also allow other callers in on the call. After the interview is done, or even during the interview, callers can ask their own questions of the niche expert. These calls are known as teleseminars or webinars.

Why do audio interviews?

Not everyone is as thrilled to read the printed word as I am; lots of people would rather listen to audio and feel they get more out of the material when presented this way. People learn differently and it’s in your best interest, as a marketer, to speak to everyone on their own terms.

Audio interviews are valuable virtual real estate (VRE). You can spend an hour researching the interviewee and putting together the questions and another hour interviewing them. So not counting the time it might have taken you to “woo” them, you can have a marketable audio product in two hours! That’s much faster than writing an ebook from scratch.

The reason you want to interview an expert is because they probably have what others want, and that’s knowledge. Really, it’s a win-win-win situation. It’s good for you because you can draw in even more listeners and get kudos for helping them out. It’s good for your subscribers because they get a ton of new information. Lastly, it’s good for the expert because they get even more recognition as an expert and will have the chance to promote something in the interview.

What skills do you need?

You will need to learn how to do an interesting interview. Learn interview techniques from available resources. I believe it takes some skill to be a good interviewer so it’s a good idea to practice on your friends before you do your first real interview. The questions need to be on a subject your subscribers or potential buyers are interested in and they should be thought-provoking

You should think about surveying your subscribers to see what subject they would like you to do an interview on and what questions they would like answered.

As far as other necessities, you will need to decide on the recording method, where the recording will be stored, and how you will present it to your customers or subscribers. See the resource box below for suggestions on this.

What other strategies work well with audio interviewing?

Who knows, you might love doing audio interviews so much that it becomes your favorite business model. Some marketers have made names for themselves as well as earned an income from doing interviews and more interviews. I’m sure your #1 Wonderful Web Woman comes to mind!

What Our Members Say

Dear Janet and the Wonderful Web Team,

Just a quick note to wish you all a happy new year and a prosperous and fun 2012! It's still 2011 here in Spain but past 2am in Australia so I’m sure as every year it's quite a party over there. I do miss those fabulous Sydney new year’s celebrations!

I would like to say thank you for all that you do for those of us in the WWW community - for the inspiration, interaction and support. Following Janet in the last few years has been one of the most constructive things I have done whilst starting up my own internet business. Not only the wealth of quality advice and instruction but the tips and interviews provided by WWW have been invaluable. Especially for someone like me who is based in a remote location on the other side of the world with a very specialized niche market. I’ve come into contact with so many people through your community. Above all, the integrity and sincerity of the way you conduct business online is a ‘wonderful’ testament to your brand, and sets you apart as a leader in the internet business industry.

Looking forward to progressing in leaps and bounds myself in 2012, and wish you all greater success in 2012.

Kind regards,

Vanessa Jeny

avatarHi Janet and Wonderful Web Team,

I have been a gold member for a little over 12 months now and through your network I met my business coach (to whom I may not otherwise have been exposed), contributed as an author to two gold books, met many other inspiring business owners at 4DM in Sydney, and learned so many small but useful tips on expanding my business.

You're a great leader, Janet. Congratulations and keep doing what you're doing to inspire others to be better than they think they can be in the world of business!

Much Love,
Kirsty

I've found your website through the JV Network and I wanted to write and say how very impressed I am with it! You have done an amazing job and should be very proud.

I have a friend here in the states who does something similar - ha, actually she used to be my babysitter, and now look at her! Wow, the powers of the Net combined with the determination of a woman are simply incredible.

I wish you success with your website and ventures. I have signed up as an affiliate and will be submitting articles for your review shortly.
