Does it pay to shop around for a domain name or what?

Today we decided to purchase a new Domain Name, wonderfulweb.tv, so I decided to have a bit of a look around to see what prices domain name suppliers were charging.

Well what an interesting experience, it is so easy to part too easily with your hard earned cash!

.tv domain names are considered quite valuable with the advent of internet TV, but did you know that .tv is actually the official domain extension of suffix of the Country of Tuvalu?

.tv domains valuable? check out what dogs.tv is selling for on a domain name auction website…

Are .tv domain names valuable? $95,000 USD for dogs.tv

How much should you pay for an available untaken .tv domain name?

Yes .tv domains they are valuable, but how much should you pay for an available untaken domain through a supplier?

On a quick search of a couple of domain name suppliers, the price of wonderfulweb.tv varied from USD$12.99 to USD$228.04 for the first year of registration.

Enom.tv had the cheapest registration for the first year at USD$12.99 (AUD$15.38) and then $29.95 for each year thereafter.

Enom first year special $12.99

Namecheap.com was the next expensive at USD$25.00 per year (AUD$29.60)

Next expensive was GoDaddy.com at USD$40.14 (AUD$47.53)

Australian Domain Name resellers were even more expensive, tpp.com.au was AUD$78.00 (USD$65.88)

Crazydomains.com.au were selling .tv domains for AUD$79.00 per year (USD$66.72)

While the most expensive was melbourneit.com.au at a massive AUD$270.00 (USD$228.04) per year.

It just goes to show that you can save money when you shop around, even for basic .com domains. Check out the table below for some price comparisons.

But don’t just go on price alone, check out what comes with a domain name, sometimes there is some hosting included and other extras. Which one did I opt for? Namecheap.com, best price in the longer term and I have domains hosted with them and they seem to be a pretty good company.

Thanks Doug, this is really helpful, the variations are huge if they are selling the same thing, name only. I will do some more investigation as I was about to get a new domain name.

What Our Members Say

I heard about WWW from Kathie Thomas and I'm glad that I joined in on my first teleseminar in August 2007. Ever since then I have learned each week from the weekly teleseminar speakers and I have been able to network with other members.

I started off as a free member but soon realized the advantages to becoming a paid member. I have gained so much more as a paid member because I was able to gain access to download prior teleseminars and learn from them.

If you have been trying to decide whether you want to become a free member or a upgrade to being a paid member, I would say try things out and you will see like I did. Everything works together for your good as a business owner.

Thank you so very much, I only signed up with Wonderful Web Women yesterday
through a good friend of mine Ann Oliveri. It was just fabulous catching
the call this morning - I loved the fact that I could check out the webinar
online rather than the call this morning as I had my darling wee children
tearing around in the background demanding every item from the fridge.

Wow Ali was wonderful and you were fabulous Janet. you ladies are an
inspiration to a mother of 3 little ones living here on the Sunshine Coast
in Queensland . I am a proud kozzie..Kiwi / Ozzie . . . who has been
floundering for more than 5 years. Seriously suffered from information
overload. Having said this Ali was spot on when she said FOCUS FOCUS FOCUS
and one other vital thing . . . is ACTION!!! Focus is nothing without
ACTION. Well I have been playing with Hand Pouring my own candles now to
turn this into a serious viable business.

avatarAs you may know recently my town was destroyed in Hurricane Irene. For the last few weeks I have been doing much contemplating over what I really want. What do I want my business to be? I had even considered just walking away.... although that didn't last longer than 15 seconds.  Then today I got this email, reminding me what I CAN do, reminding me that I have an amazing teacher and mentor, who not only can show me everything I need to know about business, she also looks pretty damn good in Harry Potter Glasses. Thank you Janet for being exactly who you are. I can't wait to get back on track with my business and begin creating again. And thanks once again for adding incredible value to the web and making it possible for people like me to learn from amazing minds like you. If you ever wonder if you are really making  difference out there in the world, just pull out his email and give it a read. HUGS

To Your Success!
Fondly,
Stephanie
