Article Marketing With Kristi Sayles
October 9th, 2007 . by Janet BeckersWhat an excellent call with Kristi Sayles today. Kristi shared some great information today about how to use articles to position yourself as an expert and drive free traffic to your site. Kristi combines some great talents. She is a passionate writer, but also a teacher to 7 and 8 year olds. Combine that together and you have a person who is excellent at breaking down into easily understood steps, everything you need to know about writing articles and how to use them to market.
Kristi has also used these skills to create step-by-step software to guide you through writing articles that will be accepted by the major article submission sites and has bundles this together with an amazing 7 bonuses, including copywriting software and also software to automatically submit your articles to over 100 directories. You can check out the very generous offer she has made for Wonderful Web Women members here: http://www.wonderfulwebwomen.com/recommends/kristi
Key Ideas From The Call Today
All of the key ideas will be summarised in the Big Idea Cheat Sheet and Action Plans that will be in the Gold Members area in about a week. But here are few to get you thinking - and a challenge as well!
5 Must-Do’s For A Great Article
- You need a great headline. Make sure you put your main keywords in the first 4 words of the headline
- Include a great introduction and make sure you use your keywords here
- Use 1 subheading for every point you make
- Keep it short (”brevity is golden”),
- 250 to 750 words is all you need
- use bullet points
- use short sentences
- Your resource box is the most important part of the article. You must include a call to action and a link to your site so readers will visit your site and join your mailing list
An Article Challenge
Kristi mentioned that once you have 10 articles accepted to www.ezinearticles.com you are graded as an expert. Following her advice today I don’t think that will be too hard to do - you just have to take action. So here’s my challenge to you. I intend to have 10 articles accepted to ezine articles by the end of the month and be classed as an expert writer. I’ll let you know on the blog here how I am progressing.
So I challenge you to do the same. 10, 250 word articles on your area of expertise by the end of the month! Go on, I dare you! Let us know how you are going.
Cheers
Janet

I enjoyed chatting with you, Janet. Now, get out there and get your expert author status! You can do it! I love the challenge you’ve made. People will thank you for it when they see all the free traffic they generate to their sites with this simple plan. Hugs, Kristi
Hi folks Well stage 1 in my quest for expert author status. I signed up for an account at http://www.ezinearticles.com tonight. 11.49pm here but thought I would do this before going to bed. Sign up is easy and they have stacks of guidelines there for you to follow. It all seems pretty friendly. I went into account manage / account preferences and changed my preferences so that I can use the WYSIWYG html editor. This is so I don’t have to write any code to make the text bold, italics etc. An important point I noted in there. If you write your article in MSWord, make sure you don’t use ‘, “, = or 3 spaces. When it is changed to html when people send your article out via email it will replace it with &#? etc. They give instructions on how to fix this in there. This is so good to know as you may notice sometimes the emails I send out have some gobbledegook in them. This is what is causing the problem. Now I know how to prevent it (I hope). So, I’m on a mission to meet my expert status challenge. How about you? Let us all know of any progress you make meeting my challenge. Go on, I dare you
Cheers

Oh dear, 12 days since my challenge - I better get moving. Only 9 days to go!
Well I have made some progress. I have lots of draft articles that have been created from the transcripts of the interviews you listen to every week. I need to set some time aside to edit the articles and make sure they express exactly what I want to say. I can see me submitting 10 articles at once at this rate. I’m very tempted to delegate the article submission to my Wonderful Virtual Assistants Lisa and Laura. This is something I will definitely do as part of our systematic marketing but I really think I will need to submit the first ten articles myself before I outsource - what do you think?
I’ll let you know what I learn. As I do with everything (and I encourage you to do the same) I will be creating a checklist of the steps I need to take to submit an article the way I decide I like. That way I can easily outsource when I am ready. Cheers Janet
I’ve already done this and it is definitely a great way to inform clients that you do know how to use article marketing.
I also recommend iSnare and GoArticles.
Well here is my update on my challenge. I did it! I am now considered an expert writer by http://www.ezinearticles.com. But I have an admission to make - things didn’t go the way they were meant to go. Let me explain. 31st October and I was yet to submit 10 articles to reach my expert status. How embarrassing. That’s what happens when you make a public challenge - you have to do it or be embarrassed. No problem I thought. I will have a big night and submit the next nine articles in one go. They are mostly written anyway, I just have to finish them off and submit. But there was something I didn’t count on. I submitted my first article a few days before the deadline and the email I received told me it would take a few days before it was approved. When the day of the deadline arrived I still had not received the approval. Oh no, what to do? But here’s the good news. At the 11th hour I received an email approving my article and congratulating me on achieving expert author status after only 1 article!
So I did it - but I do feel as though I cheated. I have emailed them to ask them why I was approved after only 1 article though when I emailed Kristi to tell her, her response was “must have been a great article”. You be the judge.
