Pat Marcello shares: Use your blog to make your OTHER sites rank high in search engines.

May 28th, 2008 . by Janet Beckers

Yesterday I interviewed Pat Marcello about how to use your blog to rank high in search engines. We were lucky to find Pat as she has just recently come out of “hiding”. For the past few years Pat has worked for Tellman Knudson’s team with the sole purpose of creating content for their blogs and using her search engine skills to make their websites rank top in the search engines. This is a hugely successful internet company and Pat plays a pivotal role. Now, she is also helping others to use these skills through her blogging for boomers program.

You can check out the incredibly generous offer Pat has made just for us. The most valuable part is the 6 months access she gives you to her program which includes question and answer sessions as well as great resources. After the incredible content she gave yesterday on our call I think this is a great investment.

This week I am putting Pat’s knowledge to the test right here.

One of the things Pat suggested you do, especially when your blog is still young is post every day. So instead of writing a really long article with all of Pat’s teachings I will write a section every day this week until I run out of ideas! Trust me, she gave so much value this will be easy. Of course, gold members get access to the recordings now and the transcripts in a week or 2.

Today I will share with you something that is totally new to me. How to use strategies on your blog to make your OTHER sites rank high in the search engines as well. The strategies she teaches make your blog popular with search engines but this is taking it one step further and increasing the popularity of your other websites where you sell product, the place you really want people to find!

You can read all the details on using search engine optimization to improve your blog and your other websites here (hint: I just did something here which Pat recommends to rank highly. Read the article to find out what) .

    Hi

This is the first of many posts this week on how to use your blog to rank high in search engines. Why do you want to do this? Free traffic to your web site and traffic = cash in internet marketing.

Pat Marcello shared with us some amazing content which is just a fraction of what she teaches in her Blogging for Boomers program. Today I’ll share with you something I had never heard of before: How to use your blog to make your OTHER web sites rank high in search engines. Your blog ranks high as well but if you follow the steps below your other websites where you sell products will also rank highly in the search engines such as Google. This is usually really hard to do because search engines like lots of new content which you don’t have on a site that has a sales page to sell a product.

So here’s Pat’s recipe for success:

    1. Use Wordpress on your own domain (web address). This is free software and gold members have videos on the members area of Wonderful Web Women to show you how to set this up.

    2. Have your blog on a different domain name to your selling websites (this is preferable but don’t panic if you already have one set up)

    3. Even better, have your blog on a different web host or at least different server with your own web host

    4. Install the word press plugin called SEO All In One (I just did that and this is my first post written with this plug in. Let’s see how I go eh?)

    5. Choose between 1 and 3 keywords to base your article / blog post on. You can get a great list from here

    6. Write your article using the keywords 2 times for every 100 words (2% keyword density)

    7. In the All In One SEO plug in fields you have just installed, put keyword 1 - keyword 2 - keyword 3 in the title

    8. Fill in the description field using the 3 keywords

    9. Now, the keywords you used in the article / blog post: hyperlink these words to your website that you make money from. These linked words are caller Anchor Text.

    10. Important: You only want to link FROM your blog TO your money making site. Don’t link in the other direction as one way links are more valuable.

So there it is, Pat’s recipe. For this article I used the keywords “SEO”, “Search Engine Optimisation” and “blogging for search engines”. I’ll be interested to see how this article ranks in the search engines this week.

Of course the topic you are writing about must relate to the topic on the web site you are linking to. In this article I have linked to Pat Marcello’s Blogging for Boomers program because it is an authority site on Search Engine Optimisation and blogs (just got another link in there). It is also a money making site for me as I have used my affiliate link to link there. And as with all affiliate links, you only ever link to something you would recommend without that link - that’s the ethical thing to do.

Stay tuned each day this week as I share more tips from Pat Marcello.

    Cheers

    Janet

What a motivating coaching call today. I promised to stay on the call until all your questions were answered and 2.5 hours later we finally finished! What an enthusiastic and inspiring bunch you all are.

Today we covered a lot of ground, divided into 2 recordings. For a change today, I am making these recordings available to all our members, free and gold, as well as anyone else who you invite to be a contributor to this event.

You can listen here, as well as download the coaching call guide to print out

Here are some of the things we covered:

    1. What is a giveaway event and how you can use it to build your list
    2. Dates, deadlines and opportunities: Wonderful Web Giveaway
    3. Chance to win great prizes (MP3 loaded with interviews, Joint Venture to create a product)
    4. Ideas on creating a product
    5. How to look after your list (recording 2)
Here are some links to get you going:
    1. Join up as a contributor and get more info
    2. Share ideas and get advice
    3. Find someone to help you
    4. Perks for GOLD members
    5. A giveaway event that is currently running for you to check out and get ideas from - thanks to Reed Floren for organising his huge giveaway event just so we can learn from him:)
Our aim through this event is twofold:
    1. to help our members grow their lists (the lifeblood of your business)
    2. to learn heaps
So here’s how we intend to do this.
    • As well as all the benefits listed on the giveaway page, please use the forum (www.wonderfulwebforum.com) as much as possible. We visit there every day to answer your questions and share ideas.
    • We will also be running another coaching call just for GOLD members. This is a question and answer call specifically to help you create your product.
    Transparency big time
    • Contributors get unusual access to all our stats.
    • You’ll know how many sign ups we get, how many sales, who refers the most, which product is most popular. This kind of transparency is unheard of in an industry full of hype (you know the drill “10,000 sign ups today and you’re a loser for only referring 50″)
    • You’ll be able to watch in real life how our team work gives results. Hey this is a first for me as well so I’m laying myself bare here
Can’t wait to see your products and hear your ideas. Any ideas you have I’m keen to hear. Also, if you have skills to help others or wish to contribute in other ways with the running of the event, just let me know.

    Cheers

    Janet

    May 13th, 2008 . by Janet Beckers

Today I had the pleasure of interviewing Mary Pat Kavanagh. MaryPat is known as “The Queen of Connections” and “The Queen of Marketing” because of her ability to help people create joint ventures (JV) to really grow their businesses. Today she shared with us the secrets to a successful JV and how to use social networking sites, especially FaceBook to find JV partners and develop business relationships with them.

Wow, there’s a whole new “parallel dimension” out there! I only joined Facebook yesterday in preparation for interviewing Mary Pat and what a revelation that was. At first I felt a bit nervous, a bit like you would if you were going to a party at a place you had never been to before and you didn’t know who else was there. You weren’t sure if you knew anyone but you were sure there were lots of clicks of people who already knew each other and didn’t need you. Do you know the feeling?

I only filled in the basics (I figured MaryPat would let me know what to do), followed the instructions and then found that Facebook actually suggested people I would like to meet and I knew some of them (how did it know?). I then discovered that I could use the technique my mother taught me when I started school - I simply asked someone to be my friend!

Ok. So do you want to be my friend? Just ask me here and you can join my growing network:

    http://profile.to/janetbeckers/

How to use Facebook to find and nurture Joint Ventures

First,  let’s define a Joint Venture:

A joint venture is 2 people (or more) getting together to create a new entity, a new venture. It’s a 2 way street in that each person contributes in the form of money, product, knowledge, contacts, hard work etc. Whichever of these they have to contribute.

It is different to an affiliate arrangement which is pretty one sided. You are not really working closely together and contributing to the finished product.

    Examples of a Joint Venture

MaryPat and I are JV partners. We both created a product today together, the recording of our interview. We both promoted each other’s businesses and we are helping each other’s customers.

Another example could be where one person has a great idea and industry knowledge, but no time. The other person contributes sweat and hard work and contributes to the creation of the product etc.

How to use Facebook to find and develop JVs

    1. First of all, go to http://www.facebook.com and sign up
    2. Send me an invite to be my friend http://profile.to/janetbeckers/
    3. Gradually fill out information in your profile about yourself (books, music, hobbies etc). The whole idea is that people want to form relationships (JVs) with people they can relate to, so let them know a bit about yourself.
    4. Important. In your profile make a space to say “I want to meet people who… and my target customers (or I can help people who)…….. Be clear and specific
    5. When you invite someone to be your friend, include a personal note about WHY (eg, I really admire your work)
    6. DON”T go straight away and ask for help or say you are looking for a JV
    7. DO take the time to write comments to their profile, contribute to any discussion they may start and introduce them to people you think may help them (you can do this automatically through facebook)
    8. It’s like any relationship, you say hello and introduce yourself before you ask to go on a date!
    9. Do join groups in facebook on your topic. There are thousands of them, you don’t have to be invited to join and it is an excellent way to find contacts in your niche.
    10. Join niche groups: As well as a great way to find contacts (i.e. JV partners) it is also a powerful way to do your market research. If people are discussing problems they have, if you can find a solution to that problem, you have a business.
So go on, why not join me on Facebook and we can discover this parallel universe together? We can share our experiences over at the forum at http://www.wonderfulwebforum.com.

How Mary Pat Kavanagh can help you find JV partners

Mary Pat works with entrepreneurs to find them JV partners and coach them through creating these relationships. She has a unique program where she holds your hand, helps you find JV partners, helps you work out your scripts so you can approach them confidently and has an amazing new program which she runs through a private Facebook group. So you get trained on how to use Facebook for JVs, through Facebook. She has given an incredibly generous discount on her 6 month program just for Wonderful Web Women. It will cut your time to success. Here are the details:

  • A Balanced Life. Is There Such A Thing?

    May 6th, 2008 . by Janet Beckers

Today I interviewed Gold member Helen MacDonald on the principles of living a “Juiced Up” life. One of the many things we discussed was the concept of a balanced life. This is something that many of us aspire to and which Helen says in impossible!

Here is Helen’s thought on the idea of living a balanced life. This really rings so true for me. Often we think of the balance in terms of time. You know, I spend an equal time here at work, and equal at home. Or I left work early and that means my life is more balanced. This assumes that your life is divided in 2.  One is work which is something you just have to do, suffer through almost. The other half is your real life.

Helen shared with us the importance of aligning your life with what is important to you and this includes your work / business. If you truly dislike what you are doing in your working hours then your life cannot be balanced. It’s not really a matter of 50% of your time is happy and the other 50% is miserable.

The outcome if your energy and purpose is aligned? Work doesn’t feel like work. You slip into “being in the flow”. You know that experience when everything just seems so much easier to do, everything works?

Helen shared great techniques for increasing the energy of you and your team (this could be your work team or even your family) and also specific ways to get you and your team working in alignment. I recommend you listen to the recording of Helen’s interview available in the Gold members’ area of Wonderful Web Women.

For now, I would like to share with you here Helen’s 5 principles for Living a Juiced up Life.

How to Live a Juiced Up Life

Access: Make sure you are accessing everything about yourself or your team that is available. Think about if there is something you do not do because you have been told in the past that you are no good at it?

Move: Take action. It may not be the right action but you won’t know until you actually do something. As Helen says, you can’t steer a parked car.

Choose: Make a choice. Not choosing is a choice. Eventually someone will choose for you but you have no right to complain about the outcome if you chose not to make a decision.

Stretch: We are all tempted to stay within our comfort zones but then things cannot improve if you do not move beyond them. The area between comfort and pain is the stretch zone. Set stretch goals, not pain goals and you can achieve want you want with incremental steps.

BOP (Be On Purpose): Do what you are meant to do. Keep your vision (either personal or team) in view all the time. Helen referred to the super hero we all have inside us. You know, the one you always imagined yourself to be when you were young. The one who can do anything. Keep that inner super hero in focus.

Helen had many really practical strategies to share with us today. You can access further education on Helen’s web site. When you are there, you can purchase any of her products at 25% off. Simply enter the code wwwomen when you purchase. Thanks you Helen for your generosity.
