Steps To Grow A List By Contributing To A Give-Away Event
Filed under: Collaborative Projects, Give Away Events, How To Get Traffic, List Building, Members Opportunities, Where to Start, events
Give away events are one of the fastest ways to grow a list when you are first starting out. In fact it is a great way to grow your list even if you have a great list already. It can be a bit confusing to know how the whole process works so i have created a flow chart for you. You can see that it is colour coded to help you see at a glance what things the event organiser will do, what web pages you need to create and what email steps you need to set up. You can also see links to resources to help you set this up quickly, even if you have no product, no web site and no idea!
Good luck

Thanks for the flow chart, it helps us visual people!
I’ve been wanting to try a giveaway and I’m thrilled that you’re setting this up.
Thanks!
Peggy
A big thanks to you for this huge effort, it is so “in the spirit” of giving that I love most about working with women on the web.
We already have an ebook that we think will be a wonderful giveaway… can’t wait to share the abundance of wonderful web women wonderments in June!
Warmly,
JoAnn
The flow chart helps greatly, thanks for putting it up. Can you just clarify one thing for me?
When the person opts into the give-away site the give-away organisers get all those addresses? That means Janet and Stephanie? Is there going to be anybody else involved that is classed as an “organiser”?
Is this set up as a double opt-in where those people then get the organisers’ newsletters etc. even if they don’t go any further and get a give-away from somebody else?
I understand that for them to go onto my list they have to opt-in for my gift.
One comment I would like to add: there seem to be a lot of give-aways happening and I subscribed to one and the products were ok BUT the follow-up newsletters delivered no value whatsoever, they were only sales pitches, one after another, and I unsubscribed from all of them fairly quickly.
Some give-aways even tell people that they will find new things in there, not the old tired products they have seen dozens of times before. It seems the stragtegy has been overused by some.
We really need to come up with some great, innovative ideas and limit the give-away to once a year or so, make it scarce and precious, otherwise people won’t even enter it.
Thanks Connie
Hi Folks and thanks for the comments. You’ve made some good points Connie and you’re right. We certainly don’t want to be a “me too” giveaway site.
We will only be running one per year and the emphasis will not only be on marketing as so many are. It will be on creating success in your life in all the ways you can define success. So this includes personal, family, health. So an emphasis on balance.
We intend to run only one event per year (and have bought the domains for quite a few years down the track).
It is interesting that you bring up about the quality of the follow up emails by contributors. Another member has requested we run a session on how to communicate with subscribers after we have them on our lists. Do you think this would be a valuable webinar to run?
Re the organisers list. Yes, the organisers create a list as well as everyone who signs up for the giveaway products joins the organiser’s list. The owner of this list is me (well, Wonderful Web Group really) as we are the organisers. Stephanie is acting as a consutant and mentor on this project but the project is my responsibility. We are so lucky to have her as a guide to turn to for advice as well as the gift she is giving our members in terms of the extra class she is providing to help our gold members and people who invest in her product.
So while many of our members are on a steep learning curve to learn how to contribute to a give-away, I will be on a steep learning curve to learn how to run one! But hey, I decided in June last year to constantly push myself out of my comfort zone, so this is just another push!
Cheers
Janet
