If you’re like me you don’t always take the time to really reward yourself for achieving wins in your business. As entrepreneurs we often think “Great that worked, now what’s next”. But if you don’t take the time to really reward yourself and create a ritual around celebrating, you’ll burn out and stop creating value.

In this video I share with you a clever idea suggested by my entrepreneurial friends (and Wonderful Web Women Faculty Members) Stacey Barr and Belinda Jackson. They recognised this common problem and have a wonderful solution. Love to know if you use this simple idea yourself.

Video: Stop Being Perfect

I’m a recovering perfectionist who now lives and breathes the 80/20 rule. You’ll get 80% of your results from just 20% of your efforts so work out what that 20% is and cut out the rest.

Here’s an example. Today I shot 5 videos to be used on my website sales pages and to send you messages while I am away in Thailand for the most of April. One take, minimal script, no edits and nothing fancy. Over and done in 30 minutes then another 30 or so to upload. Sure they’re not slick and professional but they get the message across and they are authentically me. And importantly….they’re done. What have you been putting off because it needs to be perfect?

OK, so some takes just don’t work. Thought I’d share with you a blooper that didn’t even make it past the 5 second mark :)

Let me describe to you an experience I have had a couple of times this week. Only made possible since we have transferred our business to new systems.

I wake in the morning to see we have had a sale of our $2000 coaching program, making the most of our 12 part payment plan. Now there are a few things that need to happen to make sure our customer is looked after. But now it is all automated. And the best thing? Now it is automated at all levels, our customer service is higher than before.

So here’s the scenario from the beginning. Read more

Today I interviewed Michelle DeKinder-Smith about the research she has done with thousands of women entrepreneurs. Michelle has identified 5 very distinct personality profiles for women in business and I must tell you, it was a bit spooky as she described each type and their challenges. You see, we are not fixed in one type. This is very much about your approach to business and stages you move through and I could identify that I have been in 4 of the 5 profiles at different times in my business.

It was a bit like having your horoscope read!

I’ll describe each type below and see if you can identify which of the profiles fit you. There may be profiles for where you have been, where you are now and where you’d like to head. Michelle calls them the “5  Janes” from her “Jane Out Of The Box”.

You can take this quick (and free) survey to find out which Jane you are and get some great advice on what steps to take to meet the common challenges of that Jane type. I’d love to know what you learn. Read more
