#11 Web TV: A Board of Directors For Your Home Based Business

PlayPlay

A few months ago I boarded a plane to groovy Byron Bay to meet up with 4 entrepreneurial girlfriends. Once per year we meet for a retreat mastermind to work on our businesses. This year we did an activity called “Board of Directors”. It is very powerful and a brilliant way to work with your mastermind group. Find out what it is and how you can use this idea in  this quick video in this week’s episode of Wonderful Web TV - your Monday dose of Motivation, Mindset and Marketing.

I’d love to hear your comments and any tips you’d like to share. Share your thoughts below. I’ll come back and join in the conversation.

Cheers

Janet

  1. Hi Janet
I think this is a great idea and would love to set up such a group with other coaches. I’m a business coach in the beauty industry. Predominantly I do events; workshops, trainings and seminars as well as have a handful of private clients.

Can you offer some suggestions as to how I would go about finding other coaches to join my ‘Board of Directors’?

    Warm regards
    Brigitte

  2. Absolutely Brigitte. This is the topic of this month’s training module for Wonderful Web Women gold membership. You can join here: http://wonderfulwebwomen.com/mentoring/this-months-module/ . As well as talking about how to find suitable members for your Board of Directors, I give you the template to use to effectively manage your group. I also share who NOT to include in your group!

  3. Janet this is such a great idea I’m sharing it with my Mastermind Group right now! At the moment we meet monthly for two hours, but I can see the value in investing more every so often. Thanks.

    • Meeting every now and then for a longer, more intense review of your business certainly is very powerful. Try putting a dollar cost for your time you will spend for the retreat and that gives you an even greater incentive to reallt treat your mastermind like a business board of directors.

    Hi Janet
As usual you are certainly making me consider more and more extra aspects for my business. After watching this months gold membership video re mastermind group I have been putting out my feelers to some other business owners locally and have had some good feedback. Hope to have a mastermind group started as of Feb next year:)
Thanks for making me step out of my square:)

wonderful ideas Janet and I like that you change the viewpoint sometimes just to make us think outside the box.

  6. Thanks Linky. My mission with Wonderful Web TV is to challenge the way you think about business so knowing I make you think outside the box is great feedback for me.

  7. Karen says:

What a marvellous idea Janet! I saw the comment above about looking for other people in the same industry to mastermind with but I think it would work equally well, if not better, with people outside of your niche because then it’s easier for them to think outside of the box on your behalf; bringing in ideas from other industries to widen and freshen the overall picture of what your business can do to grow and excel.

I’m definitely going to take action this week to bring together a few of my business buddies – Skype chat would be a great place to start – what do you think?

    Hi Janet
This is a brilliant idea. I love Strategy Planning its one of my specialist areas. I have worked for many years for large telco organisations through to small Not for Profit community based organisations.
Some of them don’t do their planning at all!
Some of them do the planning but never follow up or follow through on their commitments and rarely do they put in place risk indicators and measure success or missed targets.
I must say the best thing that resonated with me about your Board of Directors initiative is the elements:
    Location: Byron Bay
    Board: Good girlfriends
    Context: Retreat

    Wonderful stuff

    • I’m always amazed how few people plan more than a month or so in advance. I find whenever I deviate too far from the plan cashflow is the first thing that suffers. Planning means Cashflow in the first instance which is a great reason to do it.

Yep Byron, girlfriends and motivated company is a great combo. Did I forget to mention to include great food, visits to the beach, a swimming pool is essential and a good escape to markets if you can. Other retreats we’ve held at spas so we go for a massage, do laps or go for a bush walk in between masterminding. Business should be fun in my books!
