#7 Web TV Introducing The Celebration Box

PlayPlay

Us entrepreneurs can be brilliant at setting goals, writing lists and working hard to reach those goals. Then when we complete the task, we wipe our brows and set our sights on the next thing. But there is an important step missing. Too often we forget to celebrate.

But then… can you relate to this? We start thinking “this is a little milestone, I’ll really celebrate when I’ve achieved XYZ” and we never really acknowledge how wonderful each step is.

Today I share with you a technique I have used for years which ensures I really celebrate achievements and takes my rational brain out of the process. I think you’ll like it. Enjoy this quick video in this week’s episode of Wonderful Web TV – your Monday dose of Motivation, Mindset and Marketing.

I’d love to hear your comments and any tips you’d like to share.  Share your thoughts below.  I’ll come back and join in the conversation.

Cheers

Janet

  1. i love this! I celebrate every time that I meet a goal, such as writing a e-book or finishing a w-course. Thanks Janet:)

    • Shiketa I challenge you to celebrate some of the smaller steps on the way to achieving the goals as writing an e-book is a HUGE achievement! Maybe also celebrate when you write the outline or write the sales page. Love you are out there and taking action!

  2. Hi Janet, I celebrate by making or buying something really special for dinner, munchies and renting a family movie. As I am on the computer a lot of the time I like to say thanks to my family and spend some quality time with them to make up for it and to celebrate the little achievements.

  3. Hi Janet, I celebrate each and every tiny step of the journey (towards my goals) with little “woohoos” said aloud. It sounds quite trite but it WORKS. Every time I get a smidgon closer to my goal, take one step, do the thing I need to do, I verbalise the action with a delighted little ‘woohoo’ and after a couple of these, my momentum is unstoppable : )

It makes me smile and reeeeally helps keep the energy levels enthusiastic : )

  4. Hmmm…..I work with my clients to acknowledge themselves and celebrate and I don’t do it myself – a bit like physician heal thyself. Janet , thank you for sharing that idea and I will make one this week AND as I am writing this I have just had an idea for a friend who has been having a difficult time over the past couple of years – thank you thank you thank you :)

    • So relate to Physician Heal Thyself Claire. That’s why I find the box so powerful. It takes your thinking out of it. Love to know what idea you have to help your friend?

  5. Hi Janet
I LOVE this idea! I’m terrible at celebrating and I’ve had lots to celebrate about recently…I often find that when I have something to celebrate in my business it brings in more business…so less time to celebrate. I end up putting it off until later…which is a really BAD idea! I’m gonna find me a box!!! and fill it up.
My book will be out in the next few weeks, this time I’ll definately be celebrating, I’m thinking a party! …but the little stuff is so important too…thanks for reminding me! Best wishes, Lisa

    • Lisa your book is certainly one to pull out a BIG celebration for. I can see a party where everyone brings a story to share given the topic of your book. Hey by the way. Lets fid a way for me to share your book with my community. I know, from reading the few chapters you sent me, it is something they will value.

  6. Hi, I like this idea a lot because I don’t really celebrate anything much. I often find it hard to think of things that are small and i know that I have the mindset that unless it is a big achievement I am wasting time celebrating something. It has been challenging financially building a business too and so I am in the headspace of not wanting to spend money on myself, because everything has gone to the business.

I am always looking at what needs to be done here still. I think it is a great idea though because it hooks up pleasure with achieving goals and that gives you the good feelings to want to continue. I will start incorporating this idea into my life!

    Thanks Janet

    Nola

    • Oh Nola I so hear you. It is when we are persisting even when the reward we receive isn’t financial that we need to find ays to reward ourselves for taking the steps towards the financial reward that will come later. Most of the things in my celebration book don’t cost money at all (funny the ones I pulled out in the video did have a cost). There are lots in there about spending a day bushwalking or soaking in the spa bath with candles, music and champagne. It’s the little things I find the most rewarding.

  7. Hey Janet

I’ve been watching what you’re doing for quite a while, but never commented. There’s always a first time for everything.

Celebration, wow! Such an important part of our lives that we often overlook. The idea of having a celebration box is a great one. We put so many other parts of our lives in boxes!!

Thinking about it I don’t celebrate my small achievements nearly enough. Yet, I hear myself telling my clients and my lovely family to do so. Yours is a timely reminder of how truly awesome we (humans) are. And that reminding ourselves of this every step of the way is a great motivator.

    Excellent tip thank you.

    With love

    • Hey Sharon thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. It’s great to meet you here. Love your observation that we put so many parts of our lives in boxes so why not celebration too. Hey love the name Reinvention Diva. What do you help reinvent?

      • Hey Janet

I’m glad you like the name!

I help WOMEN reinvent themselves. Our strap line is: If Your Stuck It’s Time to Reinvent Yourself. I’ve been interviewing fascinating women with extraordinary stories of how they have made several changes in their lives. Reinventing yourself doesn’t just happen once.

I’m sure you’ve got a great story. Perhaps I could interview you?

        Thanks

  8. Janet,

I love the idea of a “celebration box”, I know that I don’t celebrate my achievements as much as I should mainly because it is so hard to think of something to do and I just move forward to the next goals. I hope you don’t mind if I “borrow” your idea to use with some of my clients. I worked with stressed Mums and I don’t think most Mum’s celebrate the things that they achieve on a daily basis. Keep up the great work you are doing. Angela

  9. Heather Waring says:

    Hi Janet,

I’m big on celebration too, I believe we owe it to ourselves and I work with lots of my clients around celebration too and it’s amazing how many of them don’t do it….but they do now once they work with me.

I too talk about celebrations of all sizes from 15 minutes with your feet up and a cuppa to a glass of wine, a facial or massage to shopping trip etc.

Haven’t come across the celebration box idea before and I love it so will be using this for me and spreading the word to my clients.

  10. Thanks Janet … Am doing Module: Start Here Action Plan for Shine Online … and have just created my Celebration Box – filled it with some wonderful treats … and should be ready to dip in shortly :)

  11. Aw, this was a really nice post. In idea I wish to put in writing like this additionally ?taking time and actual effort to make an excellent article?but what can I say?I procrastinate alot and by no means appear to get something done.

  12. What an excellent idea. I like the idea of selecting the reward before I begin to work on the challenge/project so that when the ‘going gets tough’ I can dream of my reward for my achievement – and hopefully get an injection of enthusiasm to keep going.
