Jane: Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s episode of Rising Star Radio. I’m your host Jane Hinchey, and you can find me at www.janehinchey.com. Today in the hot seat we have with us Keran Barret. Hi Keran, how are you?

Keran:  Fine, very well thankyou Jane, how are you?

Jane:  I am well.  To get us started, why don’t you share with us who you serve and how you serve them?

Keran:  Ok, its women; women who are forty and over. My intention was to write originally a book on gardening, but I ended up by actually writing a book about learning to run at the age of forty and over for women.  So I’m hoping that this will help others to learn that you are never too old to take up challenges, but my main aim is actually to complete a membership site so that long term I can help women record their stories of their lives through photographs; and that’s what I’m really passionate about doing.

Jane:  That sounds incredible; I love the sound of that. So, do you have a website or somewhere people can find and connect with you at the moment?

Jane:  Fantastic. Thank you for that.  Now of course you’re a member of the Wonderful Web Women community.  Can you tell us what program or product that you’ve purchased that you’ve taken action on?

Jane:  I love Janet’s TV show it’s awesome, especially all that behind the scenes stuff.  It’s great isn’t it?

Keran:  Absolutely wonderful.  It’s helped me enormously.

Jane:   So you got the list building course, what did you learn from that that led you to taking action?

Keran:  I’ve learnt to be organised and to batch tasks so that I’m more efficient, I can do some forward planning and it just helps with my mindset, so I found that with a different blog to what I’ve talked about already, aside from my main interest, I’ve been using a blog to actually practice and create better habits, so I’d say that batching was a really really useful tool I learnt and I also learnt to set my intentions for the day and that mindset I find is really useful to help me stay focused on what it is that I want to achieve on that particular day, and that can change from day to day and probably to focus on one task at a time and to master it.  So with list building, there are just so many different avenues and not all of them I think suit everyone at the same time.  So to take one task, focus on it and master it and then each step will build on the last one.

Jane:  Fantastic, they are really good points that you’ve made there.  So what’s changed as a result of you taking that action?

Keran:  Oh, heaps of things.  I knew the information intellectually but I was really anxious about actually doing it in case I failed, but then I found once I took action I felt very empowered by what I’d learnt.  I created my e-book on ‘women learn to run’ by writing it myself but I outsourced one chapter and that was a really great experience and the end result was better than I could have achieved on my own, and again creating bonus products I felt like that was another world, but once I actually started learning how to do it and actually did it, I realised it was something not just for other people but something I can do as well. And in all of this, I think there are technical aspects that we just need to learn how to do.  It can be frustrating but it’s also enormous fun and it also has meant that I am less reliant on other people if I do it myself or I can outsource it because I understand it better.  I happen to really love the “techy stuff” and it’s given me some new skills as well.

Jane:  Fantastic and I think it is very awe inspiring that you’ve written your very first e-book.  That is a magnificent achievement, so well done.

Keran:  Thank you.

Jane:  What tips can you share with our listeners today that they can take action on themselves?

Keran:  I would say take just one thing that you don’t know enough about.  There’s often lots of things that we think ‘where do you start?’ and you can feel a bit overwhelmed, but just by taking one thing and focusing on that topic and then implementing it, I’ve found that that’s been my best – I suppose, mantra to try and live by.  If you put it in your diary, think about it the day before you do it, visualise yourself mastering it and then actually doing it – and there are many lessons from that one step that have a spill over effect into other areas of your life.  I suddenly realised that I am capable and knowledgeable and it has taken the edge off the fear of the unknown and just put it now within my grasp and within my sphere of ability.

Jane:  Absolutely, I agree.  That’s great.  Now you’ve given us some inspiring information here today.  Is there anything else that you’d like to add?

Keran:  Probably just to say that nothing will change if you don’t and also I’m a bit of a perfectionist and one thing I’ve learnt is that there are some things that you must get right and there are other things that you can refine later.   So working out what are the basics that I need to make this work and then move on and don’t get caught up in too much detail that you don’t need to at that point.

Jane: Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s episode of Rising Star Radio. I’m your host Jane Hinchey, and you can find me at www.janehinchey.com. Today I am delighted to be speaking with Julie Lewan. Welcome Julie.

 Julie:  Thanks Jane, it’s great to be here.

Jane:  Thank you so much for taking the time out to join us today and to get us started Julie, why don’t you tell us who you serve and how you serve them.

Julie:  Sure, I work as a medical Intuitive and my purpose is to help people locate the root cause of their discomfort and then work with them to dissolve it and how I do that is I scan their body and I see, feel and hear what is happening in their energy body and then I work with people by taking them inside their body and working at a cellular level to dissolve pain; work with illness.  There’s a whole tool box of how I do this but I do have a loose structure that I follow and once we’ve done that we get to the root cause of what’s going on and that is emotion.  So when you can work at that really deep level, extraordinary things will fall away and rise up, as in positive things happening.

I’ve been doing that for twenty seven years now and every year I enhance and develop the way that I work with people as I grow personally.  I get greater self understanding and then I can work with other people in opening them up to greater self understanding.  So, that’s basically how I work.

Jane:  That’s fantastic, sounds really really interesting.  Do you have an online presence Julie? Do you have a website where people can find you?

Julie:  Yes I do, I have a number of websites but probably the best one would be http://julielewin.com/ and if you  Google Julie Lewin, I’m all over the first five to ten pages of Google, so you’ll see my different websites pop up. But Julie Lewan is probably the best place to start.

Jane:  I love that if I Google your name you are going to be all over it. Now of course, you are a member of the Wonderful Web Women Community, can you tell us what program or product you have purchased that you have taken action on?

Julie:  Yes I started off with the Wonderful Web Women program, the mentoring program and I was so delighted with it and when Janet released the Shine Online program, I didn’t hesitate; I think I joined up immediately and I have to say that taking the Quadrant Quiz and finding out that I was a superstar in the Quadrant Quiz was really exciting for me and I didn’t hesitate to be mentored by Janet at a deeper level – I’ve found everything that I’ve looked at within that program to be exceptional and probably one of the key things that I hadn’t been doing over the time that I’ve been building my business is to celebrate my achievements.

What I would do is think about all the things that I haven’t done on my journey to create the business that I wanted and one of the things that Janet introduced us to was the Celebration Box.  Well, I have to say that I immediately I created my Celebration Box and I celebrate every single thing that I do.  If I do something for the first time, wherever I am, I buy a coffee cup and it is a representation of that wonderful moment.  Last year I was invited to speak at a closed workshop with some health practitioners in Byron Bay and it was my very first one and I had a fifty percent conversion and so we went straight down to one of the coffee shops and bought some handmade coffee mugs that everytime I drink out of it I think of that moment and so my coffee cup cupboard is growing but with really personal, special reminders of things that I’ve achieved; so I love that.

I’ve got some pretty cool things on there, like being told to go and buy a new outfit and going for a little weekend away.  So, there is a variety of non-monetary value but great value for me all the way through to a trip to Melbourne, so I’m flying somewhere.  I regularly dip into there and it’s very exciting and very rewarding and acknowledging.

What else – I love the Shine Online program.  There’s a closed Facebook Group which I love to participate in and support other women and share what I’m learning because that inspires others to feel that they can achieve something as well so I’m really big on giving back to the communities that I’m involved in.

The thing that I’ve found I suppose is, over twenty seven years of developing my unique program, I know so much that it was so daunting to unpack that to create my signature system and the way that Janet has created that signature system model has been of enormous benefit and over the last four months, I have unpacked a lot of my knowledge and I’m following Janet’s model of presenting that information to my clients and it has been really well received; so that has been a fantastic benefit and bonus that I wasn’t expecting from that program.  It has helped me invaluably prepare a ninety minute presentation about intuition.

I knew that I was intuitive and I worked with someone else to help me a little but what Janet has done as well is really the icing on the top of the cake; to pull all my knowledge into something that is structured and I can deliver that information in a way that people can get it rather than it being a nebulas or abstract concept and the other thing that I have been really work hard on over the last six months, was my Celestial Conscious Retreat and I have to honestly say, that without being part of Janet’s program I would not have been able to pull that together and have it be an exceptional success.  I think that one of the key points from that is Janet has a module in there called how to identify your avatar and I did that. It was one of the first modules that I did back in December and knowing who my avatar was I was able to attract my perfect clients, so I had five perfect clients on my retreat.  Because I work metaphysically, the metaphysical impact of knowing who my avatar was, was that that vibration went out into the world and it attracted those people in amazing ways to respond at a heart level, so they vibrated at my heart space which is what is what is in my avatar description, so I’m still working through the Shine Online program so I’m sure I’ve still got lots to learn, but so far it’s been exceptional.

Jane:  So you’ve touched on all the changes that have resulted through you taking some action, is there anything else you want to add around that?  What has changed as a result of you taking the action from doing the Shine Online and the certain modules.  You’ve already touched on the avatar and how it helped you talk to your target market and really refine it.

 Julie: What it’s done for me is it has got me to taken action full stop.  My business exploded from 4th January this year and Janet sent out an email, on New Year’s Eve and she got us to do a celebration chart with coloured pencils or pens and to just reflect on the last twelve months of what were the highlights for me, what had I achieved and it wasn’t until that moment that I did that, and I did it on a big sheet of cardboard, that I realised how much I had achieved in the last twelve months and that actually impacted me emotionally as well and I was incredibly delighted to get an email the next day, on New Year’s Day, which was the beginning of the New Year, to create an intention chart and I did that 100% fully and what I wrote on my intention chart. I just reviewed that before Easter; I achieved over fifty percent on what I wrote on my intention chart for 2012.

Jane:  That’s fantastic

Julie:  I focused in on my intention. The other thing I’ve done is, I have a monitor, I have my computer and then another monitor so I’m looking straight ahead and not with my neck bent and I’ve stuck my intention chart right next to my monitor and so everytime I look at my monitor I actually subliminally have my intentions right in my face.  I covered all aspects of my life, my personal life, my business, my spiritual, my development and I wrote three or four things on each element of my life and they are right there all in my face.  Until I did that exercise, I didn’t realise the power of subliminal or unconscious patterning and how that can affect you.  That’s probably been one of the highlights for me was doing that intention chart.  It was a business breaker for me and I’m not uncomfortable in sharing with you, in three days – I think we had New Year’s Day, a public holiday and I think we went back to work on the Tuesday – I had booked $15,000 worth of work.

Jane:  Awesome

Julie:  In three or four days and I believe that that was from – because I got really focused on my business and I was really clear about how I was going to achieve that business and do you know, everyday was a celebration day it has been such an exciting ride this year, and for a little while there I took my attention of my business and fell out of the flow and my business almost ground to a halt and I didn’t get upset about it because I understood that all I needed to do was put my energy back into it and once I got that I then, not the same volume amount, but similarly my business has exploded again. So that would be one of my key tips I’d say to anyone listening to this call, is that you need to have your heart in your business.

Jane:  Yep.  Do you have any other tips you want to share with us today and that we could take action on?

Julie:  Absolutely.  Do something on your business everyday. In the past what I was doing was doing big chunks of time irregularly and then there’d be a gap of two or three weeks and then I’d do another big chunk, and what I’m talking about is working on my business not in my business and through working with Janet, I had the realisation that if I do something every single day on my business, then I can build it daily so that the energy is staying in my business and I can quickly make changes if what I’m doing isn’t exactly where I want my business to be going.

Sometimes it’s a bit of trial and error and by doing something incrementally everyday I found that it has had a profound impact on the quality of my business and my response to my business.  I’m just filled with joy and awe and wonder about what my business is doing now, whereas before when I was coming in and out I’d get excited and then I was more riding the pendulum of life rather than feeling more stable and that equanimity that you’re in the flow so that would probably be a really hot tip for you, is that if you can do a little bit everyday on your business you will stay in the flow and when you’re in the flow synchronicity and serendipity happens and so you’re action for experiencing that is to do something everyday, even if it’s ten minutes, twenty minutes or an hour, It’s that’s consistency that makes a difference and what it will also do for you is it will give that feeling of persistence and it’s persistence and consistency that will grow your business without a shadow of a doubt.

The other thing that I really love about Janet’s community is that you are with like minded people, so being part of a like minded community has been a tremendous support to me.  If you can find yourself in a community where you are supported by other people taking a journey, not that they’re doing your business, but they’re working on their business and passionate about what they’re doing and are willing to share, if you are willing to share what your learnings are then they don’t need to make the mistakes that you make.

Speaking about mistakes, there are no mistakes.  Mistakes and perceived failures are part of being successful and it gives you that contrast that what is you want to do and what you it is you are not willing to accept in your business.

I used to be really discouraged and upset about what I perceived to be my failures and now I just look on them as “oh, that’s something I won’t do” or gee whiz I’m glad I made that mistake now because, if I’d made it in six months time it would have had a way more devastating effect on my business than by doing it right now.

I’ve got one last tip for you; up until April last year I was getting enquiries from my websites, and that presence I have on the internet is really good for my business and I was emailing responding to their enquiry and saying this is how much I charge and this is what I do, but it’s very two dimensional, they can’t get a feel for who you are, just through an email, and I was converting my enquiries at about ten percent, literally from the day  I changed my strategy, I re-wrote my website and changed my strategy from telling them how much I charge over the internet, to ringing them, describing to them how I work with them, how I provide my whole package and answering any questions that they have, and I can do that in ten to twenty minutes.

I’m consistently converting at 90% across the board and I’ve just put my prices up in the last few days and I’ve done four enquiries and have converted at 100%, just because I ring them; they can feel who I am through my voice, through the way I communicate and I take the time to answer their questions.

Any of you who that are doing a service based business and you have a high priced item, it’s invaluable, it’s given me the lifestyle I like to live and I know that I’m working with people who really value what I have to offer them.  That’s my best advice to you, to talk to prospective clients in a genuine authentic way.

Jane:  Fantastic, that’s really great responses and some information and tips you’ve given us here today, Julie.

Julie:  I actually have one more and I forgot to mention it.

Jane:  Ok, hit me with it.

Julie:  You must have a mentor.  I’ve got several mentors – invaluable.  I wouldn’t have got to where I am today without mentors and be willing to pay for those mentors. They’ve done the hard yards and they’ve got incredible advice and experience and it would take you years to do by trial and error.  Be willing to pay for that experience.

Jane:  Yeah.  Ok, thanks so much Julie for your time today and for sharing your experiences with us.

Marney: Hi Jane, how are you?

Jane: I am very well, thank you. Thanks for joining us today. Now to get us started Marney, why don’t you share with us who you serve and how you serve them.

Marney: Okay, Jane. My business is a natural therapy clinic where I specialise is kiniesology and I assist mainly women but some men, but women predominately to change their lives in regards to their mindset, or their stress bucket or just they’re feeling stuck so they need to know how to move forward.

Jane: Cool and do you have an online presence, Marney? Do you have a website at all?

Marney: I do Jane, people can find me at www.kinique.com and I also have a facebook presence, you can find me at Kinique Kinesiology.  My business name Kinique came from’ kinesiology  uniquely for you’ so I put the two words together and formed Kinique.

Jane: Very clever. I like it! Now you’re a member of the Wonderful Web Women community, can you tell us what program or product that you’ve purchased that you’ve taken action on?

Marney: Okay, well I’m delighted to be part to be part of Janet’s community. So it helps me to take action. It’s very good.

Jane: And so what sort of action have you taken as a result of being a part of Janet’s community?

Marney: The very first thing it inspired me to do was actually do a similar thing to what we are doing today; it was my first foray into having an interview on the phone and Janet encouraged you to ring this number in America, one of the conference call numbers and record an article or program and it just gave me something to start to get my confidence up, so that was the first thing I ever did with Janet plus today I answered the call to put your hand up to be one of the Rising Stars Radio people, again you have to decide if you are going to say yes or no and when you say yes, she helps you along the way to achieve the best you can.

Jane: And so, what’s changed as a result of you having the confidence to put your hand up to record these calls and be involved and be interviewed?

Marney: The biggest change for me is confidence. I would never have thought to put my hand up to be on radio or to do a conference style call but I use Janet as one of my mentors because I watch her do her stuff, I see her weekly TV shows she does and everything and I know that sometimes it doesn’t work well and that is totally okay because she turns, what she calls ‘lemons into margaritas’ and she knows that it’s just for this moment and not to worry about it but to move on anyhow so, for me it’s confidence, it’s saying, “I gave it a go, it didn’t quite work out, it’s probably okay, what can I do to change it to make it better next time?”.

Jane: That’s exactly right and I guess it’s not looking at it as a mistake as such but more as a learning experience.

Marney: Definitely, it’s part of your growth in your business. I entered small business as a 46 year old, middle aged lady on a new journey of life and was totally technophobic. My children used to say to me, “Don’t say yes to anything mum, if they ask you a question, don’t answer it”. So I’ve gone from that to actually engaging in social media and doing my own surveys and actually putting my hand up to be a guest speaker on a radio show; the Angel Heart Radio Show, once a month to spread the word about kinesiology and the benefits that it gives people. Four years ago, I wouldn’t have been game to do it.

Jane: That’s awesome. That’s all stemmed from you getting the confidence as you work through being part of Janet’s community and the Wonderful Web Women community has taken you to those places.

Marney: Definitely, because I wouldn’t have had a go otherwise, I wouldn’t have seen that you could do it. I was new to the internet, I knew I wanted to grow my business on the internet and I didn’t have a clue how to do it. Janet was just one of those people that was attracted; it was easier and you could ask questions. She didn’t really think that your questions were stupid, so I felt it a very comforting and very warm environment to learn how to grow an online presence.

Jane: Fantastic. Now, are there any tips you can share with our listeners today that they can take action on themselves?

Marney: Yes, I think the first tip is if you want to have a go people, be game to have a go because really what big deal is it if it doesn’t work? It doesn’t matter; it’s all a step in your next journey. Part of my business is called My Heart Speak, and My Heart Speak is where if you can imagine it being the A symbol; you’ve got your life experiences or your life journeys and your knowledge come together and then form that line in the middle and that becomes your heart speak which is wisdom of your heart and other matters and if you’re learning, it’s how you move to the next step. And it’s from that section of your life that you can face challenges that you meet down the track. It’s in every way of thinking of it.

Jane: Fantastic. That sounds great. You’ve given some great responses here today Marney, is there anything else you would like to add?

Marney: One of the other main things that Janet has encouraged people or has encouraged me – I feel like she talks to me personally when she puts her things out onto the internet and to have a go even with regards to writing, so I’ve been a member of the Gold Membership Book that Janet does every year. Last year it was a hardcover one and I was so excited, I was even game to put a YouTube video about the book arriving in the house and everything and a double benefit for me was that my brother was the designer of the book cover which was like another family connection. Well, I’m now writing a book and I’ve done 32,000 words on stress and stress management. I wouldn’t have tried that years ago.

Jane: And you think it was through being involved in Janet’s book that prompted you to have a go yourself?

Marney: Well, I put on all my business cards when I was first starting off – I put the words like Author, Workshop Facilitator but I wasn’t one, but now I’m an author; well, I’ve been an author in Janet’s membership books, I’ve been an author in Janet’s hardcover book and now I’m an author in a book of my own right. So to me it was like the baby steps; so step one is this, step two is this, step three culminates in something that you can do yourself. My next thing is to have a membership site equal to Janet’s.

Jane: Fantastic. It sounds like you’ve got some big things coming your way Marney, well done.

Marney: Thank you.

Why is it some people are incredibly successful at utilizing the power of the Internet in their marketing while others can’t seem to figure out the winning formula?

How often do entrepreneurs and salespeople look for that next magic formula to build their business and increase revenues, never quite making any of it work? Many people make it much more difficult to succeed than it need be, while others know exactly what to do… and they do it.

Ask anyone who has effectively integrated the use of the Internet into his or her overall marketing strategy and that person will tell you success in building your business, both online and off, is about systems. Simple as that.

Developing and utilizing systems is nothing new. Yet, the great search for the pot-of-gold at the end of the rainbow and getting-rich-quick continues.

The place you’ll find more gold than virtually anywhere else is in doing something many people just don’t find appealing. It is in developing and maintaining a solid database. Unfortunately, many people don’t find database management “sexy” enough. So they continually buy into that next “secret formula.”

Fact is, with a well-groomed database, you can increase your revenues and decrease your marketing costs. You can build customer relations and keep your name fresh in the minds of your market by keeping in touch. This establishes excellent position within your market.

Most people would be amazed at how simple it is to build an incredibly profitable database by applying a few simple strategies. Remember, simple is not always easy. It will take time, commitment and focus.

Bigger is not necessarily better when it comes to your database. Depending on your industry and what you sell, you may be well served to focus on the few dozen or few hundred who want to buy from you, rather than thousands who could care less about what you offer.

On the other hand, there will be situations where building a massive list is exactly what you need to do. Especially if you have a mass quantity of products you are selling at a very low price. Then you may want to go for the numbers.

Driving traffic to your site is an ongoing process, as is building and maintaining your database. If you are serious about using the Internet in your marketing, you need to lay the groundwork to optimize your opportunities.

- Develop a fully operational web site
- Have a way to capture contact information such as a sign-up form
- Give people a reason for leaving their contact information by way of an ethical bribe. This would include a free report or ebook, an article of interest to your target market or anything that is of benefit to the reader
- Develop a series of content-driven messages that address your customers’ needs
- Keep your name in front of your market consistently without being annoying
- Write and distribute articles to various online resources pertinent to your market
- Create a resource box containing your web address
- Do not make the articles a hard sell. Rather, provide information that positions you as a resource, before you are a vendor
- Develop a list of forums and discussion groups you can participate in
- Commit to the long-term.

By focusing on developing a solid database and providing incredible value to your market you can and will achieve success in your business. Guaranteed!

I don’t have a list! What do I do?”

I have been asked this question countless times. My answer is always the same; start right where you are.

I’ve been making my living (and a great one at that) on the Internet for many years now. But it wasn’t always this way. There was a time when I made no money at all online.

The two primary reasons were no market reach and no subscribers. Today I have both. But each took time to build. I had to be willing to start where I was.

The challenge many people have is, rather than putting consistent effort into both market reach and building a list, they procrastinate.

they get sidetracked with activities that are not going to monetize their business. Building a successful business by way of the internet is a discipline. Don’t ever believe for a minute it is not. It takes work, commitment, dedication and focus. Anyone who tells you otherwise is likely not making money online. Simple as that.

One of the most important things you have to consistently do is build your list of people who are interested in you and your information. In the past we were somewhat limited in how we could do this. Today, there are countless ways to build a list.

1. A traditional opt-in subscriber list through 1SC, aWeber, Infusionsoft, Constant Contact, GetResponse or any number of providers. Keep the long-term in mind, as you begin to build your list. Some people look for all the free service providers. Free may not be in your best interest based on your growth projections.

2. Feedblitz or FeedBurner via your blog. Both allow you to build a list of readers who are requesting to receive your posts as you blog. Every time you post on your blog, those who have subscribed by way of the RSS feed will get your post delivered into their email inbox.

3. Friends on Facebook. Building a friend’s list is a great idea, but not if all you are going to do is market to them. For everyone to get the most value you need to be a “real” personality on Facebook. However, be aware that not everyone is who he or she says they are. Use discretion with how much information you share.

4. Followers on Twitter. Some people swear by Twitter while others think it is a complete waste of time. If you are only posting promotional information you are not creating value for others. Plan out your tweets to create the most value. You can use something like HootSuite to schedule out your tweets. This way you spend a few minutes posting tweets that will show up throughout the day rather than all at once.

5. Connections on LinkedIn. I really like LinkedIn due to the quality of professional relationships I can build. The key to success is to post high value information. There are some people who are doing no more than promoting their products and services. This is NOT the way to get the most out of LinkedIn. Contribute to conversations; post information you find from other experts that would be of interest to group members, post questions, and always think in terms of how to build relationships.

6. Subscribers on YouTube. The more quality videos you post, the more subscribers you will get. Make sure to include keywords in the title of your video and throughout the description. This makes it easier for people who are interested in your content to find you.

7. Article marketing. This is one of the most effective ways to build your expert status as well as your opt-in subscriber list. At the end of your article, include a resource box that has some type of high value giveaway. When giving information away, think in terms of going above and beyond expectations.

These are only a few of the many ways you can build a following of people who enjoy, and look forward to, your information.

When you’re viewed as a viable resource, people will visit your blog and website. Make sure you have a way for them to subscribe to something, when they do stop by your blog and website.

However, in order to build a strong following you have to go above and beyond the norm. In years past it was a lot easier to get people to subscribe to something than it is today.

Nowadays your information has to be stellar from the start.

The challenge many people have is they are so fearful of giving away content, thinking that if they give stuff away people won’t have a need to buy their information. The opposite is true. When you provide incredible free content, people are more inclined to buy from you when you have offers.

But again, your information has to be stellar. Take my 3-part video series – How to Build a Profitable Opt In Subscriber List. This is something I could easily charge for, but I prefer to give it away. Regardless of whether someone invests in my other information or not they have received incredible value from the complimentary information.

It’s amazing how stingy people are with their free information. They seem to think somehow people will magically find them, join their list and suddenly sales appear. It doesn’t happen this way at all.

The fact is, those who are doing great online are those who are constantly providing great information. Free information.

If you’re still thinking about what to give away, isn’t it time to get off the dime and put something to market? I daresay it is.

You see, when you bring on a webmaster you are handing over the keys to the castle. They will have your passwords, log ins and control of your website so you need to know you can trust them. Transcript Of The Interview

Janet: Hello and welcome. This is Janet Beckers here from Wonderful Web Women and welcome to this week’s Rising Star Radio podcast and I’m really excited today because I get to introduce you to another one of our wonderful new hosts of Wonderful Web Radio. So this is a person who is actually going to be interviewing you if you are a person in our Community who has taken action and started to get some results. So I’d love to introduce you here to Bettina Mitchell who has been part of our Community for a while now and I was just so excited to invite her to be one of our hosts because she’s just got a real passion for what she does. She’s a real implementer; she just stays focussed and makes sure that she takes action on what she’s doing and also has an incredible experience with interviewing and podcasting as well. So we’re really fortunate to have Bettina with us. Welcome Bettina it’s great to have you here.

Bettina: Well thanks Janet; it’s great to be part of this – really excited.

Janet: It is exciting isn’t it? Before we start talking about what you are going to be doing as part of the Rising Stars Radio, would you mind just introducing yourself to people? What do you do and who is it that you serve?

Bettina: I want to link back before to what you said about being an implementer and taking action; my husband calls me “B Girl, Action Girl”…

Janet: Oh does he? [laughs] I love it!

Bettina: I always like to link back to that, particularly when I think I’m running fast and not getting anywhere in a hurry but I do like to take action and what I do is I help people, particularly yoga teachers, yoga studio owners and anyone else from the wellness sector to implement processes and proven systems to help them build their yoga or their business so that they can increase their client base and just keep those clients there and staying healthy and well.

Janet: Fantastic…and I love that particular niche that you’re in because I know a lot of people who are in industries like yoga, have started that business because they are really, really passionate about health and about wellbeing and about really helping the people who they are teaching yoga or whatever it is that they’re doing that’s closely related to that, but very often they don’t necessarily go in there thinking that they are actually building a business and it can be really hard work for them to actually make sure they’ve got enough people in their businesses for them to actually be a profitable  business.

Bettina: That’s right, yes. That’s what I found too. I spent a good old 20 long years in operating business but I’ve also had a real passion for yoga and I’ve been a yoga practitioner for 10 years and a teacher for 7. A lot of my friends are in the wellness sector and I can see they’re tremendously passionate about helping other people and tremendously passionate about health and wellbeing and they started to operate their businesses without any business skills. Every business needs some standard things that they need to put in place and marketing being a very important one and some consistency and sometimes some processes and a bit of a map on how to get to where they want to go so they’re not just dithering about and so that’s what I really wanted to do. I wanted to use my skills that I’ve accumulated over all these years being in the corporate sector to show passionate wellness practitioners/specialists how to build their businesses.

I really believe in natural therapies and I really believe that this industry needs to be sustained and it needs to be sustained through proven systems; so the good business practices. So that’s what I help people to do and I do that through workshops and my information on my website and I’ve got this really neat program to help people to really understand where they want their businesses to be and how they might get themselves there and that’s really fun and quite creative and really enjoyable.

Janet: That’s great. Now, you have a podcast that you’ve been running for a while and that’s actually how you came to my attention when I was looking for people who I thought would be great joint venture partners to be working with Rising Stars Radio. Can you tell people a little bit about your experience with podcasting?

Bettina: Well, I got inspired about podcasting through you.

Janet: Oh did you?

Bettina: Yeah, absolutely. I’ve been a fan and kind of..stalking’s not a very pleasant kind of word but..[laughs]..I’ve been looking at your material and what you’ve been saying for a really long time and that’s where I got a lot of my inspiration from. I wanted to tell the stories of the teachers here in Australia and New Zealand so we could map out the history. I was really intrigued about how they sustained their businesses and their careers in yoga so I thought I’m going to do what Janet Beckers does. I’m going to interview all these people and find out how they’ve done it and who their teachers were and I just had this idea and got it started and all of a sudden I got really worried and thought what if these people don’t want to talk to me? [laughs] and that’s not really the problem because people don’t necessarily, particularly in the yoga space, have very many vehicles to get their voice out there. And it’s a really interesting space because there are different managers and different styles of yoga, but across the board there are real similarities, particularly in running their businesses. I love it…it’s heaps of fun.

Janet: Yeah. It is isn’t it? And you know, the nice part is, if you’re doing it for your business, even if people aren’t paying to listen to that podcast, if it then attracts them into your business and they become a customer, in reality, what’s happening is people end up paying you in order to eavesdrop in you having a great conversation with somebody.

Bettina: Yeah. I’m such a fan of podcasts. Creating them is really exciting and I feel really privileged to be able to do that, so I’m really looking forward to working on Rising Stars, that’s for sure but I love listening to them to. I’m subscribed to a lot of podcasts. It’s a great way to fill in time walking or time even in the shower.

Janet: Oh impressive! [laughs] How do you do that?

Bettina: I’m all about distance learning. I subscribe through iTunes and I download it to my iPhone and we’ve got a podcast holder in our bathroom and I plonk it in there and I turn it up and I can listen while I’m showering.

Janet: Oh well, there you go. I just had to ask you about that. I was trying to work out how you were doing that without everything going..

Bettina: Thanks Janet, for that mental picture. [laughs] Think of me more walking along with the dog, listening to my podcast… that’s a better mental picture… [laughs]

Janet: There you go folks. That’s given you great inspiration of where you can be listening to the Rising Stars Radio! I was going to ask you this question at the end but, because we’re talking about podcasting, I guess it would be nice just to share what you’re hoping to get out of actually being a host of Rising Stars Radio?

Bettina: Well, I think one of the most intriguing things about being part of the Shine Online program has been connecting with people that I might not have been able to connect with before. So I’m loving doing my yoga teacher podcasts and learning from the yoga teachers but there’s all these other incredible women building their businesses online in so many ways and I really just want to see more people, more women in particular, expanding more in their businesses and I’m sure it would just be great to help them to promote themselves and get their message out there to help other people. It’s that connectivity aspect of it that I think in getting that voice out and committing and contributing to that other platform to get the message out. I think I’m going to meet some new friends on there somehow!

Janet: Yeah, I think you will because the nice part about this is everybody who is actually a guest on this program has invested in their business through any of our programs or products or even our books so they’re showing that they’re actually committed to growing their business, but more importantly, they’ve taken some action. No matter how small; it might only be what they consider to be small, but it’s moved them forward and other people take massive action. So I think they’re really fascinating to be the interviewer on these sorts of programs because you’re actually always interviewing people who’ve got that great attitude. Some of them will have got great results already, some of them are just starting out but they’ve got the success attitude and so that’s what makes a really interesting interview I think.

Bettina: Absolutely. There’s some fascinating people out there.

Janet: So, while we talk about action takers and success attitudes, you’re doing the Shine Online Coaching Program – so what action have you taken? What things have you learned that you’ve been able to implement into your business?

Bettina: Well it’s a nicely structured program so it enabled me to go step-by-step. While I’ve been working in business and operating businesses, I thought I knew a lot about how to identify what my market is and put my programs together but this has really helped to guide me and what I’ve learned from that is that it’s a different way of looking at the market. You’ve taught me how to talk to my market in a way that they will identify the connect because of the way you’ve taught us how to speak to them and write the words down that will resonate with them more clearly and talking to them from their perspective rather than my perspective. So that’s been really great and I’ve gone back to a lot of my materials and re-written things to really engage their minds.

Also the signature system was something very new to me on how do I build an information product and a series of programs. I didn’t know how to do any of that so without that program, I would have really struggled. I was really struggling; that’s why I invested back in myself because I thought I’ve really got to invest in myself to really follow these systems so that I can come out the other end being able to have a business and not just walk around in circles going ‘I’m confused, I don’t know what to do’. So yes, I learned a lot from identifying my avatar and I’ve learned a lot about developing my signature system and packaging it up and pricing it up; just taking that step-by-step approach.

But you know one of the real things that I got from the program is the mindset and the mastermind group. That’s been just absolutely gold. Just having the materials on how to set up a mastermind was really good but actually putting it into place and to action and just getting the girls together, it’s just fantastic. They’re so helpful, they’re so motivating. They teach you so much stuff; things that you can blunder along with forever trying to work it out for yourself and you can just post up a question to the Facebook group or the mastermind group and just get your answer so quickly. Definitely all of those things are fantastic.

Janet: Oh that’s wonderful. It’s great to hear that feedback and I think two things to really acknowledge there is, because you already have a good background in how to identify the vision in your business and all of that methodical system that you already have in a business, it can be very easy to close your eyes to a new way of looking at it and that can be a big problem when people are coming into be learning a new way of something that they are already applying some of it already in their business so I think that that’s a really important thing for people to take away from this that, simply by having a different way of looking at something that you’ve already been doing and think that you’ve done it completely, can totally change the way around.

So having that really, really open mind and also just that other thing about community; it’s one thing that you can say to people that you’ll be joining a community of people that support you but until you actually experience it, and how supportive and how far that moves you forward, it’s just something that I consider to be one of the most important things in building your business and it’s just wonderful to watch you and the group that you’ve brought together with the mastermind and you’re actually doing it. And it’s going to be people coming out of your group that are going to be getting the results.

Bettina: And it’s a really different way of connecting I think. There’s no sort of competition of sharing ideas. Very quickly we got to be really supportive of one another and so much kindness is coming through and I don’t think I’ve ever experienced anything like that in a work environment before. Quite often, like you were saying, you are invited to join a community but you don’t know how powerful that’s going to be until you jump in and get involved in it. It really is vital.

Janet: Every community has a different culture and we seem to have a community that’s formed that has that kindness and collaboration; real supportive. It is a culture within a community, we’re very fortunate. Now we’re just getting to the end of our time..a couple of things that I wanted to pick up from what you’ve experienced and what you’ve been saying and been doing.. for people who are listening, any tips that you can give them that you consider to be the really good take homes that they should be thinking about and implementing in their business?

Bettina: Stepping away from it a bit, you taught me about certain different methodologies and how to plan so get up from your computer sometimes and go for a walk or get out some paper and plan. Plan, plan, plan – it’s really important. Get some thoughts and ideas out there and then work out on how you are going to get to realising what you’ve put in your plan. Taking action is so important. If you write things down and you don’t do anything about them, then nothing will ever happen and that just feeds self destruction I think.

Janet: Yeah.

Bettina: You have to take action. You’ve got to revise. Join a community that will cheer you on and give you some thoughts and ideas because the reality is that sometimes you get into these communities and they’re thriving but there’s also down days that they will share with you that will make you realise that it’s not always easy but there’s always someone out there that’s going to give you a pat on the back or a kick up the butt or something to keep going so just take action, revise, plan and don’t do it on your own; collaborate – it’s really important I think.

Janet: Yeah, that’s a really nice thing to end on. Is there anything else that you’d like to say before we go? I think that’s a nice collaboration point you’ve made there too.

Bettina: I think investing in yourself is really important.

Janet: That’s actually a great point. By investing in yourself, you are showing ‘I am confident that I’m going to succeed’. Therefore, it’s an investment, not an expense to actually time or the cost, whatever it is that you are actually investing whether it’s time or money. That’s a lovely way to finish. Well, thank you so much Bettina. I am really, really looking forward to hearing all the wonderful interviews that you are going to be doing and just really shining the light on so many wonderful people that are in our Wonderful Web Community.

Janet: Hello everybody and welcome, it’s Janet Beckers here with Rising Stars Radio and I’m doing an unusual episode here at Rising Stars Radio because I’m going to be introducing you to one of our new hosts of the program, Jane Hinchey, and so I’m very excited to be introducing her to you because it’s going to be Jane and our other host that you’re going to be hearing from every week through our interviews, so let me introduce you to Jane. Hi.

Jane: Hi, thanks for having me Janet.

Janet: It’s very exciting. This is a great opportunity for us to really be able to introduce you to people in our Community so they’ll really get to know the person behind the voice they’re going to be hearing every week so I’m really looking forward to getting to really share what you do in your business and also you’re such a fantastic action taker so I know you’ve got some great inspiration and tips to share with everybody.

Jane: Thankyou

Janet: So Jane, would you mind just sharing with our listeners a little bit about yourself like who do you serve? What’s your business and who do you serve through your business?

Jane: Okay, well as you know, my name is Jane Hinchey and I’ve branded my business as myself, so you can find me at http://janehinchey.com but I help other small business owners, so small entrepreneurs and solopreneurs get found online and build their online presence. So what I mean by that is developing their websites; and I use WordPress, helping them with their Social Media; so things like FaceBook, Twitter and LinkedIn because a lot of people really struggle with the Social Media side of things and I also assist getting them set up with their newsletters and video marketing and that type of stuff. And what I like to do is I can work with my clients one-on-one; like coaching or, if you are the do it yourself type, I have a range of online video tutorials that you can just buy yourself and go through it step-by-step and teach yourself how to do all of these things like: build your own website using WordPress and get started creating your own marketing videos; a lot like you do Janet in your WebTV. So, that’s basically what I do in a nutshell and who I serve.

Janet: That’s fantastic. So is that your background? Is your background really to do with websites and technology and stuff like that?

Jane: My background is a lot of project and administration type work and I got involved in creating video through a business I used to have which was a Pet Sitter and I found that creating videos of my clients’ pets while they were away and just popping them on YouTube so the clients could check in while they were on holidays; make sure their dog or cat was doing okay, turned out that that was a really good marketing strategy that I just stumbled across; I didn’t really think about it but I loved creating those videos and so I got started in the whole video stuff and I am a bit of a tech head and I am a bit of a nerd and I love all that techie stuff and I also found with my video clients that I was getting so many requests for help with their websites and their Social Media and that’s when I decided to rebrand as my own name because I used to be known as Ace Video Marketing, so rebranded as my own name just to incorporate more into that because it’s hard to encompass all the things that I do into the one name that would cover everything so thought ‘I’m going to brand myself, as myself’.

Janet: I know, that’s a tough decision isn’t it? It’s one that a lot of us toss up between so that’s great. I’ve been watching all of your reincarnations over the last couple of years and really finding your place. Because you’ve been a member of our Community for a while now, what programs have you done through the Wonderful Web Community and through Niche Partners?

Jane: Sure, I actually purchased, and I can’t remember when it was; it was quite a while ago now, but I bought the Passion To Profits Course through your Wonderful Web Seminars range and I also had some individual coaching that I did with yourself, Janet.

Janet: Yeah, I remember that, it was fun. Especially through the Passion To Profits, because the whole focus of that is all about how to interview experts and how to grow your business and position it through interviewing – so what action did you take through doing that course; especially things that you can share with other people that they could be actioning too?

Jane: When I first did that course, my business that I had in mind then was all around the pet care industry because I was a Pet Sitter and so I developed a website and I was interviewing guest experts on all sorts of pet health issues. Then that led into a membership site that I’ve just developed know around interviewing people around business strategies and things like that as well, so the action that I took there was, and the reason I bought that course, was to teach me about Joint Ventures for one and how to do these expert interviews.

Janet: And it’s interesting that you started doing it originally in the area that you were doing Pet Sitting and I can remember us talking about World domination in the Pet Sitting industry [laughs] but the interesting thing is that, since you’ve being doing that, you’ve started developing passions for other things outside of what you were directly doing and you followed it, which has been fantastic.

Jane: That’s right because I think sometimes we start off with an idea and it morphs into something else and it’s about knowing what to let go of and what to follow and I thought the Pet Industry was where I wanted to be because I’m such an avid animal lover and I do still love animals and pets but it wasn’t the actual business for me and it was learning to recognise that and just to follow where this was all taking me but that was a great starting point and I learned so much from it that it was invaluable to me.

Janet: That’s a really good point that a lot of times we will keep on holding on won’t we to some things? Because you’ve put so much time and effort into it and I think it takes an amazing amount of wisdom to really be able to say ‘well, you know I’ve learned a helluva lot through that and I’m going to apply it now to where my passions have changed to’.

Jane: That’s right.

Janet: So that’s kind of leading now to what we are going to be doing together. It’s interesting that you were drawn to do that course because it was around Joint Venture interviews and I noticed your ability and your passion and also professionalism, I really noticed that. You can really notice that in people. When you are mentoring people, you can really recognise the way that people approach the way that they’re learning and really shows the different levels of professionalism – that’s one thing I’ve noticed with you as well. So now, it is going to be, with a Joint Venture, is going to be a host here on Rising Stars Radio.

Jane: I know! Isn’t that awesome? It’s fantastic what it’s led to. I’m so excited.

Janet: Yeah, so am I.

Jane: Before I did your course and, as I said this was a couple of years ago now, there would have been no way in the world that I would have been brave enough to actually interview anyone. I’m quite a shy person and one of the things that I realised after I taking your course, was that I was hiding behind my business and what I needed to be was in front of the business and letting people get to know me and a great way of doing that is through interviews and, listening back to my early day interviews, I cringe a little bit but I’ve learned so much. That it’s come to this now, a couple of years later; that this opportunity’s just opened up and it all just comes together nicely. It was meant to be.

Janet: Absolutely, and isn’t that interesting that you’ve identified yourself as quite a shy person? I’ve actually found that some of the best interviewers are people who would identify themselves as being shy or introverted because, as an extrovert, which is what I am, I have to constantly remind myself to shut up [laughs] because you get involved in the conversation and you want to talk, talk, talk, talk, talk and so it takes a lot of restraint as an extrovert to be a good interviewer whereas, for an introvert or somebody who’s a bit shyer; they can be fantastic interviewers and I love how you’ve gone from saying you were behind the scenes and you realised you had to move forward and be the face and so much so that now your business is branded Jane Hinchey.

Jane: And if you had said that to me a couple of years ago I would have gone ‘oh, you’re pulling my leg, I don’t believe a word your saying’ and now I look at how far I’ve come and it’s amazing.

Janet: And it’s because you’ve taken action as well and that’s a big part about what Rising Stars Interviews is all about; is it’s action takers. No matter how small people might feel that the action that they’ve taken, if they’ve been taking action on what they’ve done, that is a huge inspiration for other people around them as well.

Jane: It is, and all of that is, is I did one course and I just implemented what I learned like you say, just take action and do it. There’s no point in taking a course or learning something and then not doing anything with it.

Janet: Absolutely, and that’s what so many people do. So, for you, now you’re going to be the host of Rising Stars Radio, what is it that you’re really hoping yourself to be able to get from actually being a host of a radio show?

Jane: Well, part of my passion around my business itself is to help others so, if I can actually help my interviewees in the Wonderful Web Radio share their expertise with others and give useful tips and then help other people take action because maybe you’re stuck on something or you just don’t know where to go, listening to our interviews can just give you that impetus you need to say ‘hey, if they can do it, I can do it’ because we’re not anything overly special; it’s just that we’re just taking action on something that we’ve learned or heard or seen.

Janet: Oh that’s brilliant. Well, I’m really looking forward to listening to all the fantastic interviews that you are going to be doing through Rising Stars Radio and for people who are listening to this, if you’ve been in any of our programs, even if it’s one of the books that you’ve purchased from us, or if you’ve been in one of our higher end coaching programs or anything in between and you’ve taken action on anything and sometimes that action could just be that.

I remember for one woman that I interviewed ages ago, the big thing for her was actually putting her photograph on the front page of her website and, as soon as she did that, all of a sudden she started attracting new customers and simple, little things like that, that may seem as though they are small can be really, really impactful for a lot of people right through to the other people who have taken massive action like Jane has.

The quicker you change it, the quicker it will start to work for you so that was just one of my tips I wanted to share with everyone today while I had this opportunity. So thank you again Janet.

This month I am focusing on The Power of The Mastermind. This is the training module Gold Members of Wonderful Web Women have access to this month and it is exciting to see some of our members already creating mastermind groups together. I thought I’d share a couple of things with you today.

1. The video above was recorded at The 4th Dimension Mastery event held last year. I love this video because it shares from the heart the experience of a group of our community members who joined a mastermind group together. They share the successes and also the challenges of being a part of a mastermind. A lovely dose of reality

I hope this inspires you to create a support group yourself.

2. This month I also launched a private Facebook group only for people who are current and past customers of ours. The idea is to bring together people in our community who are serious enough abut the success of their business to invest in training with us. It’s only been going a couple of weeks and I’m excited by the support happening in the group. People are helping each other with product ideas, joint ventures, accountability, emotional support and have already arranged to meet in person.
