We have entered the Tribal Age of The Internet.

Caring By Evelyn, Age 6. From www.52Virtues.com . Our "Giving Back" project

Now your customers and potential customers actively interact with each other on-line. They expect to interact with you and your brand as part of a community or tribe.
It started a few years ago with blogs. People could leave comments and start to have a say on the Internet, rather than just be passive readers of information. Then it was forums which meant they could start their own conversations.

Then came Facebook, My Space, Twitter, You Tube, Linked In……..there has been an explosion of ways people interact on the Internet and the old ways (last year) of doing business on the Internet are out the door.

It is a fundamental human need to belong. To find a group, a community/ a tribe to interact with and this is happening at a rapid pace on line. People are making buying decisions online based on peer recommendation and what they hear via social networks. Do you like what they are saying about you?

Here are 7 tips to help you tap into the Tribal Age of The Internet

This is just a taste of what you will learn if you join me in The 4th Dimension Workshop.

1. Listen To The Song in Your Heart

Social media allows your customers to get to know you on a much more personal level that in the past. They can tell if you do not truly and passionately believe in what you do and say. Spend the time to clarify for yourself first..What do you really value?
2. Know what a business really is

At it’s most basic, a business exists because you solve people’s problems. If you can provide solutions to these problems that people are willing to pay for, then you have a business. It really is that simple, yet so many people can’t tell you what problems they solve. What problems do you solve?
3. Understand whose problems you solve

Don’t rush this. You need to really understand how your ideal customer thinks, who they are and what their problems are. Take the time to get inside their head. Before I started Wonderful Web Women I spent months talking with my target market. And where did I find them? In the queue in the Women’s Loos at Internet marketing Events! Now you can do it easier. You can find them on Facebook groups, blogs and forums.
4. Get to Know Who Already Solves Your Customers’ Problems

I grew my business very fast through the power of Joint Ventures. At it’s simplest, this means finding people who already solve problems your ideal client has. So think. What other problems does my customer have and who is already successful at helping them? I specialize in helping my closest clients form Jont Ventures with experts.

5. Create a Tribal Platform

To really harness the power of The Tribe they need a place to communicate with you and with others in your community. Importantly, you need a place to call home so you can invite them back to your place, after you’ve met in places such as Facebook, Twitter etc. The Hub of your platform is your blog. This is how they get to know what you really think. Even if you don’t have a business yet, start a blog and start writing what you think. At least it will help you define the very first step I mentioned “Listen to the song in your heart”
6. Challenge Your Customers

We are in the Tribal Age of the Internet and people need opportunities to demonstrate they are part of a tribe. A fun and simple way to do this is to provide opportunities for your customers to take actions to reach their goals, with a challenge to do it publicly. Sort of like a double-dare-you to do this. At it’s simplest, ask your friends on Facebook to define their biggest goals / ideal customer / submit a photo or video. They have a time limit and it must be “all about them”.
7. Plan To Change Lives

If you are creating a business around your passions you have the capacity to change lives. Even one person at a time. So ask yourself this question in every marketing step you take. Can I change this slightly so that people can benefit simply by being exposed to the way I do business? I teach a test I call the 4th Win Test. It is very simple but incredibly powerful and is based on that one question.

I’ve learned some big lessons the hard way these past 2 weeks. If you haven’t heard what happened to me (and how you can prevent it happening to you) then get the background story here.

In short, our web host who we had a wonderful working relationship with for two years, went AWOL. Totally missing from the planet and so are our web sites.

We have numerous niche web sites and 2 HUGE web sites with an amazing amount of content. They were backed up….or so we thought. We learnt the hard way that following the back up instructions that came with our membership software does NOT backup your entire site. All of the images, audio files, videos, etc etc..all gone from the net.

Anyway, I don’t want to talk about the negative lessons I have learned through this. Not today. I’ll do that later.

Today I want to share with you an incredibly positive lesson I have learned from this experience.

I Have Not Lost A Single Customer!

My web sites have been down for more than 2 weeks now. I expected a huge exodus. I fully expected to open my Pay Pal account and see row after row of the word “cancellation”. I expected disappointed customers demanding refunds.

I’m sorry I under-estimated you.

All we had were 2 people at the beginning of the month who cancelled because they spent too much at Christmas. They were sad to leave.

In fact, believe it or not, I have been getting emails from people asking where they can sign up and Wonderful Web Women is not live yet.

Why Are You So Loyal?

This is a question I have asked myself over and over these last 2 weeks. I’ve been shaking my head in wonder and gratitude. I’ve been trying to work out what has made our relationship so special so I can share the secret with you. I want you to experience the same loyalty and friendship from your customers.

I think I’ve worked it out. Well, part of it. I think it comes down to two things.

Wanna know?

Authenticity and Connection.

Authenticity

I don’t know about you but I’m not very good at being other people. I certainly learn and am inspired by other people but I’ve never been good at copying their style or pretending to be someone I’m not. I figure if I’m just myself the people who like my style will hang around and those that don’t like me will go away.

This is risky, because if you are going to be the real you in such a public space, you allow yourself to be a bit vulnerable. But if you take the risk and let people see your strengths and weaknesses, then you can have the second element I have identified.

Connection

One of my friends made a comment when I was first lamenting my predicament (and what I was going to do to turn it into an opportunity). He said “Janet, the strength of your business is in your relationships, not your web sites”.

You know, he’s right. And this is where the strength of your business is too.

So let me give you an exercise.

Grab a pen and paper (or a spreadsheet).

Now I want you to think about the different groups of people (or relationships) that are important in your business.

Here are mine:

Leads: (people who I have had a connection with but no money has exchanged)

Customers: you know who you are (big hugs and thanks)

Clients: I differentiate this from customers as these are people who have purchased multiple products or have worked closely with me as private coaching clients

Joint Venture Partners: These may be people I have created products with, they have promoted for me or I have promoted for them in the past.

Support Team: In my case this is my team of virtual staff who I totally rely on to keep my business ticking over.

Now I want you to think about the different ways you communicate with them.

Here are mine:

My weekly newsletter and special message emails

My blog (which has an rss feed you can subscribe to, which also feeds into facebook)

Facebook

Twitter

Emails people send directly to me or my team

Telephone

YouTube

Skype (only ever for JVs and support staff)

My Web Sites (big sob here)

Why does this matter?

Different people will connect with you in different ways. There are some people who I have developed a great relationship with via Facebook or Twitter but I know they very rarely open my emails.

Other people will reply personally to my newsletter but won’t leave a public message on my blog.

The important thing is, when it comes to your relationships and how you communicate, you don’t want to put all your eggs in one basket. Spread yourself a bit thinner. That way, if you lose one or more of your channels of communication, you can still connect with your customers and other key groups through the other means.

You will notice that the first thing we did was get my blog back up so I had a way to communicate and for you to comment back. Then I went to Twitter and Facebook (actually I tweeted and wrote on Facebook about getting the blog back up).

I already had wonderful support before I even sent my first email out to my list.

The important thing with all of this communication is to return to the first point. Authenticity. Be honest and real in your communication and you will be rewarded with wonderful loyalty from the people you connect with. Those connections are REAL relationships.

And in business relationships equal cash.

As the founder and host of Wonderful Web Women I am lucky to lead an on-line community of thousands of women (and enlightened women) from around the world who are all passionate about creating success on the Internet.

One of the biggest frustrations they share with me, is knowing where to start. There are so many options that it can all be overwhelming.

Here’s my quick start guide for you.

Step 1: Start with a blog

This is central to your Internet strategy. Blogs allow you to show off your knowledge, interact with visitors when they leave comments and search engines (like Google) LOVE blogs.

Step 2: Collect email addresses

Did you know that only about 1% of people who visit your web site will buy anything? In fact, 1% is pretty good believe it or not. So that means 99% of the people who visit your site and then leave may never return. What a lost opportunity.
The most important thing you should have on your web site is a “sign up box” so they can join your email list. You need to give them a good reason to do this though. A newsletter just doesn’t cut the grade any more. That leads me to my next point…

Step 3: Give before you receive

You are asking people to trust you when you ask for their email address so you need to give them great value in return for that trust. I always offer something that is of such value that I could easily sell it, instead I choose to give it away. Then the relationship begins.

Step 4: Ask your subscribers what they want

This is one of the most powerful things you can do. Ask your subscribers what their biggest frustration is (in your field of expertise). You don’t need a long survey, just one question will do. Once you know what their problems are, if you can provide a solution, you have a business.

Step 5: Dazzle them with your knowledge

Now you have the 2 essential tools to Internet success (a blog and an email list) you can start to build a relationship. Your subscribers have told you what their problems are, now you need to convince them that you are the person they can trust to solve their problems. Take each of the problems they have given you and write a 500 word article that gives great help. You don’t need to solve the problem completely (they can pay for the complete solution) but you need to convince them that you know your stuff and position yourself as an expert. Post this article on your blog and encourage visitors to leave comments.

Step 6: Keep in touch

This is another one of those questions I get asked all the time. How often should I contact subscribers to my email list? There’s a fine line between building a relationship and harassment. I recommend you email great content weekly, monthly at the least. You need to be fresh in their mind when they are ready to buy.

Step 7: The 80 / 20 rule

Remember Step 3? Give before you receive? The same happens with every correspondence you have with your customers. I recommend in every email you send you use the ratio 80 / 20. If you give 80% great content that solves your subscriber’s problem, they will be happy to accept 20% selling. In fact they will expect it. This can be as simple as including a link to a product they can buy that relates to the email content, or advertising a workshop you are running or service you provide.

Step 8: Encourage a 2-way relationship

This is the most powerful thing you can do to build your Internet business. People buy from people they know and trust. It’s just like dating. You’re not looking for a one night stand here, you’re looking for commitment. So you need to encourage them to communicate with you and share a part of themselves. This is where your blog comes in. In every email you send, refer people back to your blog. A great way to do this is include only part of your great article in your email and link to your blog so they can read the rest. In the blog and the email ask them to leave comments and questions. Make sure you reply, on the blog, to every comment that is made. If people feel that you are listening, they are more likely to listen to you

A final note

In business, relationships equal cash. Traditionally people have seen the Internet as a place that isolates people and that makes it difficult to develop relationships. In fact, the opposite is true. By using the steps above, your potential customers will feel as though they know you much more than if they had walked into your shop once-off. And as I said before, people buy from people who they know, like and trust.

Why would you want to be on the first page of Google anyway? Google is the most popular search engine people use when they are looking for information (or products) on the Internet. If you can get on the first page of Google, you are pretty well guarantted to be high on the other search engines as well.

If you can be in the first 10 listings (out of often millions) for term people are searching for, then you are much more likely to get people clicking on the link to your site that is listed in Google. That means heaps of potential customers to your site – for free.

Cheryline Lawson has perfected a method to get your site listed on the first page of Google very fast, and multiple times. She uses techniques that many marketers are using separately and found the perfect way to combine them to really leverage the results. It’s the classic – “the sum of the parts is greater than the whole”, or however that saying goes

Here are the main components and over the next few days I’ll share details on each. Cheryline goes into heaps of detail in her book which is incredibly good value.

Press Releases

Press releases are written differently to articles. They should be used to promote something new. It may be the launch of a product, launch of your blog, an event that is happening online or offline or a comment on something topical. Cheryline shared details on how many words to include, how to use keywords and where to submit your release. I’ll share details this week and Gold members can download the recording in a few hours as well.

Social Bookmarking

If you have a look at this blog you will see there is a line of images called social bookmarks at the bottom of each post. These are web sites that people sign up for and list topics they would like to receive the most recent info on. You can submit your new press release to these book marking sites so people who want info on your topic will be notified. Even better, Google loves these sites as they rank highly (greater than 5 out of 10) for Google Page Rank. A site with a page rank of 10 gets the most visitors, a site with a page rank of 0, hardly gets noticed.

Blogs

Google loves blogs. You don’t paste your press release to your blog. You use different content and write short articles on specific topics in your niche. Cheryline finds writing reviews of products you are promoting as an affiliate works better than a general article. Creating blogs is also a great way to test the popularity of topics as you canbcreate ablog on each topic and measure the success without committing to a whole website and intensive blog.

RSS aggregators

An RSS feed basically means that the content you have written on your blog gets sent out to the search engnes immediately, and in a no-frills package which they love. Aggregators basically collect RSS feeds on specific topics and make it easy for people (and search engines) to get the info quickly. You can submit your blog to heaps of different aggregators just once, and then they will be updated everytime you update your blog. An example is Feedburner . Cheryline has included a long lists of the best aggregators which you can gradually submit your blog details to.

The main basis of this model is to write content (as Press releases or articles) and then subit them to web sites that have a very high page rank. This means you will have high ranking sites linking back to you. These sites are the press release directories, the social book marking sites and the RSS aggregators. Simple but powerful when they are all combined.

Well, I say simple, but the important part to master is how to write the content in a way that search engines like and whwre and how to submity this content to the highest ranking sites so you can get links back to you. This is where Cheryline’s book comes into. She has done an incredible amount of research and documented it all. I’d hate to think how long it would take me to trial and test all this myself. Much faster to follow her steps in her book and get the results without the hard slog of researching. Thanks Cheryline!

Watch out this week as I share even more info. Gold members of Wonderful Web Women I really recommend you listen to the recording with a pen and paper – you’ll take heaps of notes.

Cheers

If you were on the call today with Cheryline Lawson I hope you took heaps of notes! Cheryline shared with us the method she has tested and perfected to get web sites ranked on the first page of Google in a matter of hours. But not just one place. She has shown how to get your site listed on the first page multiple times and how to stay there.

We covered a lot of advanced stuff so I will give an overview of her method today and over the rest of the week I will share with you more details on each step here on the blog. Actually spreading your blog content over many days, instead of all at once is one of the techniques Cheryline shares.

Cheryline’s book and her generous bonuses are excellent value and I do recommend you get them. Cheryline is very much a detail person and her book takes you step by step through the techniques she uses, with an incredible amount of links to the sites she recommends and detailed proof on how it works. I have read through the book and am so impressed with the level of detail.

I suggest when you get it, you print it out, use a high-lighter and write yourself a to-do list as you go. Then break that to-do list up into bite size pieces because as Cheryline stressed, you don’t have to do it all at once. Work through the steps gradually and each step will get you results.

So here goes folks, Cheryline’s detailed method to dominating the front page of Google…..see this next post.

Cheers

Janet

Over the last few weeks we have heard from a few speakers about different ways to use social networking to grow your business on the Internet. Today, Michele Pariza Wacek showed us how to tie it all together into a Web 2.0 strategy.

Over the next week I will be sharing with you a few of the concepts Michele introduced. Today I’d like to share with you a concept that is close to my heart – “Leverage”.

Michele’s 7 step recipe for Web 2.0 traffic

Raw Ingredients:

Prepare beforehand: 1 great quality article, 500 words in length that gives great content on your topic

Step 1: Include your article in your email newsletter / ezine.

Send your newsletter at least once per month. Michele recommends once per week

This develops a relationship with people on your list

Step 2: Post the article to your blog

Your blog is central to your Web 2.0 strategy.

Blogs are favoured by educated, affluent people (ie, good paying customers)

Use WordPress software on your own domain (free with Wonderful Web Hosting). Michele also has a hosting and blog facility for $100 / yr. Her contact details are below)

Step 3: Add your blog to your social networking sites

You can actually import your blog into Facebook in the notes section of your profile

Facebook gets more traffic than Google and the average age is 39 (not all teenagers)

I have just added this to my Facebook account. Be my friend? I’ll show you later this week on this blog how I did this.

Step 4: Cut your article into bite size pieces

Use these tasty morsels to answer questions in blog posts and forums

Post these answers on other people’s blogs as comments

Step 5: Record yourself reading your article

simply record yourself reading your article (use an MP3 recorder or record straight onto your computer)

Add the audio to your BLOG using a wordpress plug in for podcasts (search Google for wordpress plugins)

You can then take the podcast “feed” information that is given to you through this podcast plug in, and submit it to podcast directories such as itunes (search Google for podcast directories)

Step 6: Create a press release

Use the 500 words you have written and create a press release

submit this to press release directories on the Internet

This will get you traffic but importantly will get you noticed in the mainstream media

Step 7: Submit your article to article directories / portals

Spread the love. Your original 500 word article can now be submitted to websites that let people use your article on their own websites (with links back to your site of course)

As you can see, this is the recipe, but like any good cook there are gourmet techniques you need to master to create a true Web 2.0 degustation (how far can I carry this analogy?). This is where Michele comes in. She has created a comprehensive package that shows you how to do all these steps. It is not just information (though mind you, she has even loaded the recordings directly onto an Mp3 player for you). It includes checklists, excel spreadsheets, links to the directories she uses, how to write the articles, press releases and how to create a podcast and heaps more.

You can grab this here, and she even has a 4 part payment plan. After you purchase, email Michele at michele (at) michelepw.com and tell her you are from Wonderful Web Women. She will send you a $50 refund and also send you her digital book “Why Isn’t My Web Site Making Me Any Money? 10 Easy Steps To Make Your Web Site Go Ka-Ching!”.

You receive the digital version immediately and the physical version within the week.

I’d love to hear of your ideas on this strategy. Watch the blog this week. I’ll be sharing with you screen grabs of how I added this blog to Facebook and also Michele’s 3 reasons why people use the Internet (you must cover at least 2 to succeed).

Cheers

Janet

I have had so many members email me to tell me how much they learned from Pat Marcello last week about blogging for search engines. She gave great content which is just a fraction of the content she delivers through her blogging for boomers program. If you are keen to learn how to use blogging to increase you profit, such such an experienced blogging consultant, then check out the very generous offer she has made you.

I’ve already implemented a few of Pat’s suggestions. I just checked how one of my blog posts was ranking on Google for the keywords “seo, blogging, Pat Marcello” and am ranked 9th out of 16,500. How good is that!Interestingly, one of our members, The Admin Bandit, ranked 6th after doing a critique of one of the posts I did on Pat’s interview. So we both won. She ranked high and I benefited as the post she linked to was one that had even more competitive keywords so was hard to rank. So there’s another lesson I learnt! Thanks Pat.

Yesterday I interviewed Pat Marcello about how to use your blog to rank high in search engines. We were lucky to find Pat as she has just recently come out of “hiding”. For the past few years Pat has worked for Tellman Knudson’s team with the sole purpose of creating content for their blogs and using her search engine skills to make their websites rank top in the search engines. This is a hugely successful internet company and Pat plays a pivotal role. Now, she is also helping others to use these skills through her blogging for boomers program.

You can check out the incredibly generous offer Pat has made just for us. The most valuable part is the 6 months access she gives you to her program which includes question and answer sessions as well as great resources. After the incredible content she gave yesterday on our call I think this is a great investment.

This week I am putting Pat’s knowledge to the test right here.

One of the things Pat suggested you do, especially when your blog is still young is post every day. So instead of writing a really long article with all of Pat’s teachings I will write a section every day this week until I run out of ideas! Trust me, she gave so much value this will be easy. Of course, gold members get access to the recordings now and the transcripts in a week or 2.

Today I will share with you something that is totally new to me. How to use strategies on your blog to make your OTHER sites rank high in the search engines as well. The strategies she teaches make your blog popular with search engines but this is taking it one step further and increasing the popularity of your other websites where you sell product, the place you really want people to find!

You can read all the details on using search engine optimization to improve your blog and your other websites here (hint: I just did something here which Pat recommends to rank highly. Read the article to find out what) .

Hi

This is the first of many posts this week on how to use your blog to rank high in search engines. Why do you want to do this? Free traffic to your web site and traffic = cash in internet marketing.

Pat Marcello shared with us some amazing content which is just a fraction of what she teaches in her Blogging for Boomers program. Today I’ll share with you something I had never heard of before: How to use your blog to make your OTHER web sites rank high in search engines. Your blog ranks high as well but if you follow the steps below your other websites where you sell products will also rank highly in the search engines such as Google. This is usually really hard to do because search engines like lots of new content which you don’t have on a site that has a sales page to sell a product.

So here’s Pat’s recipe for success:

1. Use WordPress on your own domain (web address). This is free software and gold members have videos on the members area of Wonderful Web Women to show you how to set this up.

2. Have your blog on a different domain name to your selling websites (this is preferable but don’t panic if you already have one set up)

3. Even better, have your blog on a different web host or at least different server with your own web host

4. Install the word press plugin called SEO All In One (I just did that and this is my first post written with this plug in. Let’s see how I go eh?)

5. Choose between 1 and 3 keywords to base your article / blog post on. You can get a great list from here

6. Write your article using the keywords 2 times for every 100 words (2% keyword density)

7. In the All In One SEO plug in fields you have just installed, put keyword 1 – keyword 2 – keyword 3 in the title

8. Fill in the description field using the 3 keywords

9. Now, the keywords you used in the article / blog post: hyperlink these words to your website that you make money from. These linked words are caller Anchor Text.

10. Important: You only want to link FROM your blog TO your money making site. Don’t link in the other direction as one way links are more valuable.

So there it is, Pat’s recipe. For this article I used the keywords “SEO”, “Search Engine Optimisation” and “blogging for search engines”. I’ll be interested to see how this article ranks in the search engines this week.

Of course the topic you are writing about must relate to the topic on the web site you are linking to. In this article I have linked to Pat Marcello’s Blogging for Boomers program because it is an authority site on Search Engine Optimisation and blogs (just got another link in there). It is also a money making site for me as I have used my affiliate link to link there. And as with all affiliate links, you only ever link to something you would recommend without that link – that’s the ethical thing to do.

Stay tuned each day this week as I share more tips from Pat Marcello.

Cheers

Janet

On our call today with Jennie Armato, she shared web sites that you need to submit your blog to if you want to get indexed quickly by the search engines. I have really just listed them here but in our interview Jen went into a lot more detail about why each one is importnat. This interview is available for gold members to listen to now.

Here’s the list

technorati.com

feedburner.com (google has just bought this)

google.com (log into your google account and submit it to the blog submissions section)

yahoo (save routine as for google)

mybloglog.com

2rss.com

Jennie covered so much great info on the call that I have spread what I learnt today over 5 blog posts. You can see the related posts here.

On our call today with Jennie Armato we discussed the latest techniques Jen has been using to get amazing rankings in the search engine and huge free traffic. She held nothing back. So much so that I have had to spread what we have learnt over 5 blog posts and a forum post! You can see the related posts here.

Free plug ins to get traffic to your site.

Below is a list of the plug ins that Jennie has tested and shown to be the best for generating traffic to your blog. You can get these all from www.wordpress.org for free. You can also get templates to make your blog look flash. They are free too.

I’ve really only listed them here. If you listen to the recording of the interview in the gold member’s area of Wonderful Web Women you will get details on why these are important and how to use them.

all-in-on-seo pack

google xtml site maps

jerome’s keywords

podpress

wordpress/notable for social book marketing. (Listen to the recording. Jen gave a really good tip on how to use social bookmarking to get your blog searched quickly)

Viper’s video quicktags ( embeds youtube videos on your blog)

I really recommend you log into the gold members’ area and listen to the interview as believe it or not, this is only a small fraction of what Jennie covered. If you’re not a gold member yet, why not? We have a special offer at the moment where you can take gold membership for a test run for just $1. Just join here, or sign into the members area and click the “upgrade to gold” link on the left.

Cheers

Janet

I ran into Jennie Armato at a seminar a few weeks ago and she told me of the techniques she has been trialing with her blog and her client’s blogs. They have been getting incredible rankings in the search engines quickly and also free traffic fast. I twisted Jen’s arm and convinced her to share these techniques which she normally only gives to her high paying customers. Boy, did she deliver.

Here are just a few of the comments that came through the webcast comment form:

Hi

Today I interviewed Belinda Jackson, a lovely friend of mine who I have long admired for the strong relationship she has built with her customers and for her very calm and methodical way of explaining difficult concepts. I twisted her arm and convinced her to be interviewed 6 weeks earlier than expected – for 2 reasons.

1. I get emails every day from members asking for help with their blogs

2. Belinda has just launched a 4 part coaching program on blogging which includes her setting up your blog for you and lots of other incredible help. She was only going to release it to her own database at a very low pre-launch special. I’ve convinced her to make that offer available to Wonderful Web Women too.

You can see her offer here (if there are any left as she has limited numbers). Then read on for really helpful tips from today’s call. (by the way, Belinda will also include a special guide on Search Engine Optimisation for your blog for any Wonderful Web Women who take up her offer).

http://www.wonderfulwebwomen.com/recommends/belinda

The 3 P’s of On-line Marketing

Make sure you have these 3 P’s in your business and you will succeed

Presence – If you don’t have a web site / blog yet, Get one. Simply put, you need to have a place where people can find you and you can start interacting with them

Promotion – you need to tell people about your web site. This means on-line and off-line. It also means making sure your web site is ranked high in the search engines. Belinda covered in detail how to use your blog to rank high in Google
