One of the distinctions is very simple but usually overlooked. It is one step to include in the communication you give in your products and especially when you are selling your product.

I’m talking about the opportunity they can be positioned to make the most of if they take action.

We are looking for a person to create articles, blog posts, e-books and follow up auto-responders for our own projects and those of our clients. Usually you will be asked to re-purpose existing content (for example take a transcript of an interview and create multiple content types from it) so there is rarely the need for research on the topic.

We’re looking for someone with experience and who has a business that can grow if we send you referrals. If you give great service and value to us then we will refer you to our clients. We need to know you are serious about ghost writing as your business because we need to know you can cope with any referrals we send you and still provide great service and meet deadlines for us and them (you may be able to tell here that in the past we have referred so many people to suppliers they stopped meeting our own deadlines!).

But I love working closely with people and seeing them go from frustrated to clear on their direction, taking action and making money. I hate turning people back and so have the challenge of creating a system that allows me to help more people in a more leveraged way.

As with everything I do, I hope by sharing my research and thoughts it will help you make decisions in your business too.

You may have a similar situation or you will have in the future. If your business is to grow you need to find as many ways to help as many people as possible…with as little of your resources as possible. There are many models that work and are used by many people though I can’t help but wonder if the effectiveness of some models is decreasing. It is too easy to look at others and think “well it works for them, I’ll use the same model” when your target market may be looking for something slightly different. My question to you is..are there better ways?

Some Models & Who They Suit

Group Teleseminar  and / or video coaching programs

These are great for both parties (you and the client) and really allow you to leverage yourself. These seem best if you are teaching a step-by-step system with a definite end.

The disadvantage, is people may not move at the same pace as the program. If they get stuck on one step they may get left behind.

A thought? Is this an effective way to learn for you and as the business owner, do you like this model?

Business in a box

This can even be a way you leverage the recordings of your group teleseminars. Every thing is prepared step-by-step and is delivered to the customer to work through at their own pace.

The disadvantage is again, if people get stuck and have no-one to talk to they may not take action.

A thought? Is this an effective way to learn for you and as the business owner, do you like this model?

Year long group coaching

This is often the basis of a “Platinum” program. The customer has a weekly or monthly class, another Q and A call and you move at a slower pace. Often these are supplemented with a physical workshop or retreat.

The advantage is people know they have you for a longer period of time

but if they are an action taker, the pace may be too slow for them. You are also tied into a program for a longer period.

A thought? Is this an effective way to learn for you and as the business owner, do you like this model?

“Platinum Groups”

Often this is combined with the year long tele-class support. People also get to come along to 3 or 4 weekend workshops, perhaps with an extra day for hotseats and brainstorming.

This has the advantage that customers can form relationships with others in the group and help each other.

Disadvantage: It is a greater time commitment for you and for the customer and usually more expensive.

A thought? Is this an effective way to learn for you and as the business owner, do you like this model?

Mastermind groups

We already help our customers form peer mastermind groups and they are incredibly effective. Another way to help a lot of people is to have guided mastermind groups. These could be via phone or actually meet in person. For these to be effective the groups need to be small (I would not want more than 15 in a room to do this). On the phone 6 to 10.

Advantages: Collective wisdom and people get feedback on their ideas

Disadvantages: Open structure means people still need support to action what they get inspired to do. Smaller groups means the price is higher per participant to make it worth your while.

New Ideas

The more I have been thinking about models that work the more I wonder if new models are needed. For example:

Step-by-step courses with assessment tests at each stage so you can’t move forward until you’ve completed a step.

The bare basics - do this and trust me it will work, with detailed stuff you can go to if you want to (for those who never read the novel at school, instead bought the study guide)

Week long retreats with pampering for your soul as well as business building strategies

Collective projects so you learn while creating joint products

Twitter mentoring - all questions answered via twitter or perhaps through facebook groups

Weekly classes sent direct to your iphone or sms with an action for the week

Accountability and mindset coaches to keep you on track when you stray.

What Works For You?

I’m curious about models you have experienced, what you liked about them and what you didn’t like. Have you experimented with different models as a business owner? If we share our ideas here we can all benefit from hearing what works for everyone else and hopefully create some innovative ideas.

Okay, obviously there are tips and tricks to each of these stages. I share all these details in my home study courses at Wonderful Web Seminars (with a lifetime 200% guarantee and generous payment plan – that’s my shameless plug).

But first, lets explore point 2: Find Experts in Your Niche

This is where a lot of people go wrong. If you chose the wrong expert, the system won’t work as well (though, shameless plug, I also teach what to do if your expert doesn’t meet the following criteria).

Here’s what makes the perfect expert Joint Venture Partner (when your goal is to grow your list). Please note, I’m assuming here that they are actually an expert

1. They have a distinct specialty in your niche

If you run a series of interviews you don’t want to have 8 people talking on the same thing. You need to cover 8 very different specialties within your niche. Otherwise your experts are competing directly with each other (not good) and there is no reason for listeners to turn up to all the interviews (boring).

2. They have a LIST

Very important. If they don’t have a list, you don’t get to build a list from their referrals. So make sure they have a way to collect email addresses and that they actually communicate with them.

3. They have a great relationship with their list

This is very important. You want to inherit a list of people that already have a level of trust. Because they refer people to you , you inherit that trust. So how do you know if they have a good relationship?

Google them

Sign up to their list

Check out their blog and social networking sites where they often drop their guard. You can get a sense of their integrity.

4. They have a product and an affiliate program

When you build your list you also want to make money. The easiest way is through referring people to the products of the expert you are interviewing. In a way it is kind of cruel if you share great knowledge with your new customers and then leave them high and dry if they want to learn more. The best experts have a product that lets your customers learn more if they want to. Even better, they have an affiliate program attached so you get paid for your effort of referring.

These are the characteristics of the ideal expert if your goal is to build a highly responsive, targeted list. There are always ways around things if your expert only has a 2 or 3 out of 4. But when you first launch your new project or business, make sure you aim for at least a 3.

Let’s get one thing straight first. You don’t make your money from selling the book. This is one of the biggest misconceptions. People like JK Rowling may but don’t count on sales to make you a fortune.

So if you don’t make your fortune from sales of the book, how do you make money?

When you are positioned as an expert in the eyes of the public (which happens as soon as you publish a book) you stand out from the crowd.

When your ideal customer is choosing between 2 suppliers who do you think they will choose? The person with established credibility who is a recognised author or the person with no established expert status ?

Get Free Publicity For Your Business

Main stream media such as radio, TV and newspapers LOVE an author. In their eyes if you are an author you are an expert. Also, if you have contributed to a book you are TALENT. In media speak, this means you have a story to share and a depth of knowledge to make that story interesting. You can’t pay for this type of coverage.

Create products & coaching programs based on your chapter topic.

If you’ve read the book “The Secret” you will have noticed that there were many contributing authors. Rhonda Byrne owns the book but many of the individual authors have used their inclusion to really grow their businesses. Search on their names. You will find many who have created courses, tele-classes, work books, work shops, conferences etc all based on what they shared in the book. This is where the real power lies and is the topic of the coaching program run by Christine Kloser for the contributing authors of The Power of Choice Book.

Maria Andros, The Video Marketing Queen, shared with us the 7 step formula to create videos that convert. Make sure you include every one of these steps in your videos.

Maria shares heaps of high content tips on using video and social networking sites to grow your business. These are tips you would easily pay for but they are all free here.

1. Welcome the viewer

A simple thing to do but it increases conversions. Simply acknowledge that they have taken the time to watch

2. Establish Credibility

If you’ve done something that will impress your viewers, let them know. If you are just starting out say something like “hi, I’m the creator of www.bla blabla.com”

3. Use a Hook or Cliff hanger

You want to keep them on until the end of the video. Say something that will make them want to stay until the end. Such as “at the end of this video i’ll share with you bla bla bla”

4. Share your story

People do business with people they like. The idea of sharing your story, especially why you are passionate about this topic helps people relate to you. Ideally you want the viewer to think “she’s just like me”

5. Paint the problem

Spell out what the problem or frustration is that they may have. Let them know you understand

6. Provide the solution

A business simply solves people’s problems. You want to position yourself as a person who solves problems

7. Call to action

This is the part most people miss. Tell them what to do next. Maybe “go to my website for a free report” or “subscribe to my YouTube channel”.

What if I have never written before?

That’s ok. Do the best you can and our volunteer editors will give you feedback if your work needs improving. Last year, many people wrote their first article / chapter ever and the quality was excellent. They had doubts before they started too.

Once I am a contributor does my name end up on the front page of Wonderful Web Women or is this another process?

No. Only our guest speakers are listed on the home page of Wonderful Web Women. You will be listed on the speaker feature page of Wonderful Law of Attraction.

Can you put YouTube links into book?

Sure. A suggestion is to take a screen grab of the video and then put this image in the book. We can then put the link to the video below the image.

What format do you need the chapter submission ?

We have provided a word template for you to use. Please use that as it will make it so much easier for us to put the final document together. Here is the link to download it.

What types of businesses would this be viable for

The topic has been chosen because you can twist it around to suit any business niche. You can talk about how to attract security when you are driving by including actions you can take to maintain your car. As long as the emphasis is on action and being the best you can be.

Contributing to the book will give me credibility but how else can it grow my business?

• You will can put a link to your web site at the end of your article so readers will visit your web site
• You can make a special offer to readers of your chapter that will entice them to come to your website and join your mailing list. A perfect enticement it a free ebook, audio or autoresponder course. Something they need to sign up to get. Then you can build on the relationship through your newsletter. Some people even offer discounts on services or free sessions if you don’t have a product.

Do I need to have a gift to giveaway to contribute?

• No you don’t but I encourage you to as it will help you make the most of this opportunity

I don’t have time to write my chapter and set everything up for a free gift for readers. What can I do?

• We’ve thought of a way to make this easier for you. If you have a description of your gift, great. Mention it at the end of your chapter. We have made it that all gifts will be listed on one page of a new website we will create especially for this book. It will be something like www.wonderfullawofattraction.com/gifts . We can add your gifts in January (or even later if you need to) so this takes the pressure off you.

Will the names/emails that are collected from those who want to download the ebook, and the names collected from the gift downloads be shared with the all of contributors? Will WWW have the entire list, and will this be shared?

There are 3 sets of people who can benefit from the distribution of this book throughout the Internet. Below is the way each party has the opportunity to grow their mailing list.

1. All free and gold members of Wonderful Web Women: Everyone has the right to give the book away. You can give it as a gift to your existing customers or give it away on your web site in return for an email. They join through your email program. The page they are sent to after they join your list is on our special book site. They do not need to join our mailing list to download the book. This makes it easy for you because you don’t need to worry about how much hosting space is taken up when people download the book.
2. Contributors: You can benefit as above but also you benefit when a complete stranger reads the book and decides to join your mailing list to take you up on your offer.
3. Wonderful Web Women: The only time we get people on our list is if the reader wants to check out all the special offers each contributor has made. To access the gift page they need to join our mailing list.

The only difference is you can’t stay on the line,finish a recording, then start another one while still on the same line. You need to hang up, call in and start another recording. This probably won’t affect most people. It affects me because I record an interview, stop the recording, then open the lines for a general mastermind call Q & A and record that separately for our gold members. That’s the reason I have stayed with The Basement Ventures.

I was talking to Heather Vale the other day (I interviewed Heather last year about how to do great interviews). She has switched to this program. She says the MP3 recordings are not very good quality but the .wav recordings they also make available are very good quality. She relies on the recordings from Instant Teleseminar for her professional interviews but has free conference pro as a back up.

A thing I really like about http://www.freeconferencepro.com is you can personalise the message people hear when they first dial in. So this sounds really professional. Heather does this and when I rang her conference line the other day (she was interviewing me, how amazing to be on the other end of a great interviewer) I thought “wow, Heather is using a sophisticated system, must be expensive” but it was the free service. So that is a real plus I reckon.

There is a real strategy to doing this effectively but you can definitely replicate it in your own niche. When I started Wonderful Web Women I had no list (well, about 50 friends and relatives) because I had sold my previous business, along with the list. I was an unknown and had never met most of the women I interviewed. There are a lot of techniques I have developed which I cover in detail in my workshops but here is an outline to get you started:

5 steps to convince experts to partner with you

#1: Write a wish list of experts you would LOVE to interview if you could wave a magic wand and have the most successful and inspiring people.

I searched on Google, checked out www.gurudaq.com, went to internet marketing events and joined different speaker’s lists

#2: Go for the biggest names FIRST.

I know this seems crazy. After all, they don’t know you and logic would say to start with someone talented but not well known, and work your way up. You MUST start big. Read on to find out why.

#3: Communicate clearly what is in it for them and you

Money is not usually what motivates industry experts. After all, what they will make from joint venturing with you is probably peanuts for them. There are usually less tangible benefits for them. This is what I found really motivated the women who supported the launch of Wonderful Web Women:

1. They want to promote their business and latest projects

2. They are genuinely passionate about what they do and love to share

and, the biggest motivator of all……….

3. They were all genuinely passionate about inspiring and supporting women entrepreneurs.

Address these major motivators in your communication. Be clear, honest and brief (they are busy).

#4: When you have one agreement, let the rest know

This is important. People want to know they will be seen in good company and will often wait to see who else agrees first. That’s why I say go for the biggest name first. Once you have someone influential, the others will agree you are credible and be happy to join. You can even say “this is who else I have asked”, even if they haven’t agreed yet, and this will be enough to convince some that you are serious.

So go for the big fish first. If they say ”no” what have you lost? Nothing.

#5: Insist each speaker promotes the entire line up of speakers to their list, 2 weeks (and again one week) before you launch

This is the basis of your list building. Each speaker is helping each other to have new listeners on each call. They are supporting each other as much as they are supporting you. You must stress that they are supporting the other experts. This is the hardest part as they are busy and may not intend to forget your promotion but it gets lost in how much else they have going on. Be persistent and do as much as you can to help them (write the emails, make promotional videos or audios if you can)

Well that’s just the start, you have to do the interviews yet, but this is the hardest, and most important part done.

7 Mistakes People Make When They Write an Ebook

1. Thinking they will make big money just from their ebook

If you think you will make big bucks just from the sale of your ebook you are leaving a lot of money on the table. You make the money by teaching people how to apply what you write about in your book. Robert Kyiosaki (Rich Dad, Poor Dad) calls his best selling book his “brochure”

2.  Not even starting

Most people assume it will take them months and it will if they don’t have a system. It does not need to be perfect but it does need to solve your target market’s problems

3. Not researching the topic

Many authors just write what they want rather than what their target market wants. Ellen teaches how to research your topic. Examples are:

• Search on Google to see what is populra

• watch for trends

• keep an eye on forums and facebook group chats in your niche

• survey potential customers

4. Not starting with the end in mind

I really like how Ellen emphasises that your ebook is the basis of your business, not just a one-off product. You need to decide where this book fits in your business plan. Is it a lead generator or is it the main product? Will it be part of a series? Decide before you start or you may be stuck with  a topic you don’t want to pursue further or you may make your book try and solve everything in one go, rather than spreading the info over a series of related books which builds a stronger business.

5. Changing topics part way through

Apparently this is really common. People get part way through and then decide to change the focus of the book. Make sure you do your research well before hand to make sure you are writing a book that your target market wants. Then stick with what your research shows you.

6. Not having a great title

An average book with a great title will outsell a great book with a boring title, every time. A great title is essential and it MUST be one your target market can relate to. Here are some ideas to create a great title:

• Model your title on ones that work (eg, 4 hour work week)
• Change the main action to a verb (eg instead of “How to be lucky” change to “The Luck Factor”)
• Include the main benefits in your title
• Have a sub title with the explicit benefits
• Repetition (eg “get organised, get published”)

7. Not leveraging your ebook

This is where the big money is. You can create articles, teleseminars, workshops etc from the knowledge in your book. A simple example is, record yourself reading your book and you have a bonus “audio book”

How to Spread the word about your expertise through Women’s Radio

The mission of Women’s Radio is to give women a greater voice over a wider geographic area. The influence of this program reaches hundreds of thousands of women. Women’s radio can help grow your business (or your political campaign or social interest group) in the following way:

1. Apply to host a radio program through Women’s Radio. To apply, visit http://www.womensradio.com/Pages/Contact.htm and tell Pat that you heard her on Wonderful Web Women and would like info on how to be a host. Tell her a bit about yourself as well.

How To Host Your Own Program

When Pat moved her radio station from traditional radio to internet radio, she had a wish list of what technology she wanted to make it possible. It wasn’t available at the time so she and her partner, David, contracted a team to develop it for them. The result? Audio Acrobat. I’ve noticed this used on many sites, especially those of successful marketers.

These are just a few of the things you can do with Audio Acrobat:

• record your voice and put it as an intro on your website
• record an interview
• record segments for a radio program or teleseminar (eg intros, interviews, adds, music transitions) and then select what order you want each played in and when to play
• create podcasts with just 2 clicks (submits to 16 different podcast directories)
• quickly put audio on your website or blog without having to be a techy (just cut and paste)
• You can also do all the same things with video

Using this technology you can really simply have recordings of your interviews and ideas on your own website. You can even create a site that has guest hosts who all contribute their recordings to your “radio site” and create your own radio hub for your own niche.

But let’s keep it simple.

What Is A Podcast?

If you have an MP3 player, such as an ipod, you can go to places like iTunes and download music to your iPod. You can also subscribe to a “feed” which means every time you open up your computer, iTunes will automatically download the latest audio in the series you have subscribed to. You can then listen to it on your MP3, computer or even burn to CD.

A podcast uses the same system (an RSS feed) and you can download interviews etc that you have created. In fact, people can download your podcast through iTunes. It’s not just for music.

10 Ways To Make Money From Podcasts

1. Create an online presence. People get to know you, like you and trust you. Only then will they buy

2. Establish expert status in your niche – people will place high value on what you sell

3. Create a power point presentation to go with your audio. You can then post your audio to YouTube and drive heaps of traffic to your site.

4. Create and audio e-book from your podcast recordings

5. Transcribe the audio to create ebooks, auto-responders and articles

6. Advertisers and sponsors pay you to be placed in your podcast

7. Credibility – people will then pay high prices for workshops you run

7. Lead generation. The client is already pre-closed / sold. For example Heidi generates interested leads for her off-line business.

How To Get The Best Quality E-book Written By An Expert Ghost Writer

Here are the main steps to follow when working with a ghost writer. The main point that carried through Debbie’s call today was the importance of clear and honest communication. As long as you are working with a professional, the quality of your finished book depends very much on the quality of your communication. These tips will help

1. Be clear on your target market

It is not enough to say “poker players”. The writer needs more information to be able to pitch the book at the right level. A better example is “Poker players who have played at casinos for years”

2. Give a clear outline

The more detail you can give the better. Debbie talked about how much info is needed to write a book but the clearer you can be, with a table of contents and clear outline, the closer your book will be to what you are looking for.

3. Research

 Be clear on how much research the writer will need to do. Usually the writer will research the book for you. Debbie gave a good tip about how to be sure that the information the writer provides is accurate. Amongst other things – insist the writer give you a list of all the sources they used for information so you can check.

4. Be clear on the size of the finished product

Some of our listeners shared stories of contracting writers for a certain number of pages and then finding that half of the pages were contents lists, headings and titles. Debbie suggested contracting on word count rather than page count. She also went into quite some detail on the number of words needed for articles, blog posts, ebooks and reports. Too much detail to include here but take the time to check out the interview recording as well as the mastermind recording as Debbie stayed behind for ages to answer detailed questions.

5. Work to Milestones

Nothing could be worse than receiving the finished book and it is completely different to what you wanted. Insist on the first chapter to be delivered so you can make sure you are both thinking along the same lines. It is better to rewrite this first chapter a few times rather than have to rewrite the whole book.

6. Capture your voice

Let the ghost writer know if you want the tone of the book to be formal, casual etc. If you have something else you have already written, send a copy to the ghost writer so they can write in your voice.

As you can imagine, with a 60 minute interview and then almost another 60 minutes of questions and answers this is just a little of what Debbie shared with us today. The difference between podcasting, internet radio and webcasts

This  is something I’ve been unclear about. Here is the difference. Some of it really has to do with attitude!

The interviews and simultaneous webcasts that we run at Wonderful Web Women are called webcasts. Even though they are similar to internet radio – here is the difference:

Internet radio is often recorded beforehand and the format closely follows what Kelly calls “Terrestrial Radio Stations”. So in fact it sounds very similar to a radio program in that you have adverts, a few interviews and it sounds pretty professional. If you listen to Kelly’s radio station you’ll see what I mean. A Podcast is simply an audio (MP3) which could be your internet radio show, which is available to people to download any time by RSS feed. Examples are through iTunes and podcast directories.

How to create a podcast

I’m sure you want to get straight to the nitty gritty of how to create a podcast. We covered a lot of options but here are 3 methods that Kelly recommends:

1. Audio Acrobat. This is a great all-in-one system that allows you to record, stream and also send out audio (and video) in audio email postcards. Kelly uses this system for http://www.momstalkradio.com because it allows a group of people to all access the same system which is great if you create a podcast directory like she has. Kelly gave some great advice on how to set up a podcast directory and how she uses this product. I joined up today to check it out. 2. WordPress Blog with PodPress plug in . This is a good system to use if you have recorded your interview using a service such as free conferencing. If you already have the MP3 , using this combination will allow you to podcast and stream the interview on your blog. Kelly gave some great tips on how to use this to get started quickly.

3. JK Audio Inline Patch used with Audacity software. This is the most expensive option but allows you to record straight on your phone without needing to ring a conference line. The sound quality is better too. Kelly gave some good tips on what to look for if buying one second hand and how this system works.

I hope this gives you a few ideas to get you started. Of course I can only cover a fraction of what we covered in the call today. Build a list from scratch with give away events

This is the way Stephanie grew her list from scratch – quickly.

A give-away event works this way.

1.       One marketer organises the event and contacts lots of people and asks them to contribute a product that is valuable but they are willing to give away

2.       The contributors donate a product and create a page on their own website where the product can be downloaded

3.       When a visitor signs up for the giveaway event they then see a page where there are heaps of free products to choose from

4.       When they want to download a product, they first give their name and email to the owner of the product on a sign up page before they can download the product.

5.       This is how the contributors grow their list. Only people who are interested in their product will sign up to download it, so the contributor knows they are building a list of people who will be interested in learning more from them.

Start as a contributor first

Stephanie recommends you start as a contributor first. To do this you need to have a few products (or even services) ready to offer. She recommends starting with Private Label Products but importantly adapting them so they are unique and are high quality.

An apology to listeners on the webcast

We had quite a few people listening in on the webinar today and for reasons outside my control – the webcast just stopped. I have no idea why but it is definitely something that happened with Instant Teleseminar – the company we use the run the webcast. Fortunately I use a back up to record the interview so the recording went fine but I am very sorry for the inconvenience caused to listeners on the webcast.

Are the best interviewers introverts or extroverts?

A lot of people assume that if you want to be a good interviewer you need to be an extrovert. Far from it. Heather revealed that she really is an introvert and that this has actually made her a great interviewer. After all a good interviewer is not meant to be in the spot light – they are meant to be holding it and shining it on the interviewee. Her message was to be yourself and not to try and copy someone else’s style.

The three R’s of an interview

Heather shared with us 3 R’s of developing a relationship with an interviewee:

Respect - this comes before the interview starts in how you correspond, the reputation you already have and testimonials you have collected.

Rapport - you can often develop this even in the 10 minutes or so that you can chat with the speaker on the phone before the call starts. Very often you do not get past this level of relationship on a call.

Resonance - this is when you really click and the interview takes an energy all of its own. Heather shared that it is rare to get this in an interview, but it can happen if you find something that you are both really passionate about or you have developed a relationship earlier through ohter interviews
