Now I love the whole fully automated, online business model but in the last few months I’ve come to realise there is something more. This may upset the Internet Business purists but it’s true. There is something to add to the mix that is not just rewarding for me but also highly valued by my clients.

Get out from behind the computer and spend time with your clients in person.

I’ve resisted running workshops, retreats and masterminds in the past because I saw it as far too difficult to do and balance time with my children. And to be totally honest, I saw it as selling out on the ideal of a fully automated Internet business.

After last weekend, I’ve changed my mind. In fact I’m a total convert.

You see, last weekend I held my first 3 day mastermind retreat for my elite Diamond coaching clients. We spent 3 days hot-seating each person’s business models, brainstormed products and marketing and also studied the latest marketing methods. We also got to hang out, drinking margaritas and listening to some pretty cool live music. We even went to the beach.

In short, each person got business and mindset breakthroughs they simply could not have had if we hadn’t met in person.

And for me as the leader of the group I felt an incredible sense of privilege to guide this group and also had huge business and mindset breakthroughs in how to really help people in their businesses. I even got to see my children each day and they came out to dinner with us (Clancy also an audience for his magic tricks).

How Do I Know Mastermind Retreats are Valuable?

Over the last week, hundreds of people from our community have completed a survey. (Thank you so much for those who took the time. I’ll be announcing the winner of the survey prize next week).

One of the questions asked people to rank their preference for 18 different styles of programs. The 3rd most popular structure was for “Elite coaching and mastermind group with Janet & motivated business owners”.

So What Does This Mean For You?

Be Open to All Ways to Grow Your Business (a.k.a. help your customers)

If you are building your business online don’t fall into the trap of seeing your business as solely an Internet Business. It is a business. Fullstop!

Really look at what will help your clients the most and think about ways you can include face-to-face services. This could be workshops and masterminds but it could also include VIP coaching days, networking, client only dinners. You can even tag onto other people’s events by organising to have dinner with other people who are your clients (or potential clients) while you are there.

If you are just establishing your online business, doing some one-on-one service provision can be a great way to get in cash and develop your own signature system, ready for you to leverage this later online. If your business is established, this can be a great way to consolidate your business and work with higher-end clients.

Now this won’t work for every one but the main message I want to get across is be open to complementary methods of reaching your target market and providing service. You may very well find, like I did, that it is personally very rewarding.

I will be looking for more ways to introduce mastermind retreats and workshops

Well I’m hooked. Now I know that small group mastermind retreats with people who are committed to their businesses is something I personally like and importantly, gets results for my clients. So I’ll be looking for ways to include this concept into my future programs.

The Diamond program is pretty special because it also includes a lot of one-on-one coaching with me, personal coaching with our Mindset coach Lenore Miller and tech support from my team. I only work with a handful of people at this level but I can see there is the possibility to include mastermind retreats in other, less intensive programs. One of the things I arranged is to have a few tables in the break-out area for all the attendees to put their networking material. Business cards, flyers, gifts, JV advertisements etc. A lot of events don’t allow attendees to promote their businesses and give out promotional material so if you find an organiser who is happy for you to do this, or even better, actively support you to do this, then make the most of it.

Live events is one of the best places to build your business through relationships but I find most people don’t know how to do this. So I made this short video for you while I was at The Grace.

The title of the book is law of Attraction in Action. Your article does not need to be on The Law of Attraction. Your article must give guides to taking ACTION. Part of the guidelines asks for 3 action points readers can take based on your article.

What if I have never written before?

That’s ok. Do the best you can and our volunteer editors will give you feedback if your work needs improving. Last year, many people wrote their first article / chapter ever and the quality was excellent. They had doubts before they started too.

Once I am a contributor does my name end up on the front page of Wonderful Web Women or is this another process?

No. Only our guest speakers are listed on the home page of Wonderful Web Women. You will be listed on the speaker feature page of Wonderful Law of Attraction.

Can you put YouTube links into book?

Sure. A suggestion is to take a screen grab of the video and then put this image in the book. We can then put the link to the video below the image.

What format do you need the chapter submission ?

We have provided a word template for you to use. Please use that as it will make it so much easier for us to put the final document together. Here is the link to download it.

What types of businesses would this be viable for

The topic has been chosen because you can twist it around to suit any business niche. You can talk about how to attract security when you are driving by including actions you can take to maintain your car. As long as the emphasis is on action and being the best you can be.

Contributing to the book will give me credibility but how else can it grow my business?

• You will can put a link to your web site at the end of your article so readers will visit your web site
• You can make a special offer to readers of your chapter that will entice them to come to your website and join your mailing list. A perfect enticement it a free ebook, audio or autoresponder course. Something they need to sign up to get. Then you can build on the relationship through your newsletter. Some people even offer discounts on services or free sessions if you don’t have a product.

Do I need to have a gift to giveaway to contribute?

• No you don’t but I encourage you to as it will help you make the most of this opportunity

I don’t have time to write my chapter and set everything up for a free gift for readers. What can I do?

• We’ve thought of a way to make this easier for you. If you have a description of your gift, great. Mention it at the end of your chapter. Will the names/emails that are collected from those who want to download the ebook, and the names collected from the gift downloads be shared with the all of contributors? Will WWW have the entire list, and will this be shared?

There are 3 sets of people who can benefit from the distribution of this book throughout the Internet. Below is the way each party has the opportunity to grow their mailing list.

1. All free and gold members of Wonderful Web Women: Everyone has the right to give the book away. You can give it as a gift to your existing customers or give it away on your web site in return for an email. They join through your email program. The page they are sent to after they join your list is on our special book site. They do not need to join our mailing list to download the book. This makes it easy for you because you don’t need to worry about how much hosting space is taken up when people download the book.
2. Contributors: You can benefit as above but also you benefit when a complete stranger reads the book and decides to join your mailing list to take you up on your offer.
3. Wonderful Web Women: The only time we get people on our list is if the reader wants to check out all the special offers each contributor has made. To access the gift page they need to join our mailing list.

So, I suggest you take the time to listen to the audio class today. In this article I’d like to share with you 3 strategies that I use that are specific to women at events. 2 of these strategies can be adapted for men (though need to be used carefully) and one one can only be used by women (men can only use this if they are prepared to be thrown out of the event!).

An “untapped resource” – the women’s bathroom

Excuse the pun. I couldn’t help myself.

All women’s bathrooms at events have something in common that men’s bathrooms do not have. A queue! Honestly this is where I have done some of my best market research and networking at events. In fact , when I was researching to see if there was a demand for Wonderful Web Women in the beginning, I did some of my best research in the women’s toilets.

This how it works. You have a captive audience of women interested in similar things to you as you are all at the same event. While women wait for the toilets to be free you tend to the following – you fix your make up or you talk. Okay, most of us can do both at once. So make the most of the opportunity.

Just to show you that I still do some of my best networking in the women’s bathrooms, here’s proof. At the recent Bridging Heart and Marketing Conference in Los Angeles where I presented, I had a few people I really wanted to meet. One of them was Therese Skelly from www.acceleratingyoursuccess.com . She is a friend of Mary Pat Kavanagh who recommended I should seek her out. We finally met in the women’s bathrooms, swapped cards, stories and ideas on how we could work together – all in the women’s loos. So what better place to snap our photo?

Wear something unusual or gorgeous

I always make a point of wearing something creative, distinctive or unusual to an event. This can be as simple as some groovy ear rings, a beautiful scarf or unusual coat. I still look professional but I always include something that is a conversation starter. It works without fail. Most people do not know how to initiate a conversation with strangers so make it easy for them by wearing something they can compliment you on. Then you can move the conversation to business after you have broken the ice. This is so much easier for women than men because we have so many gorgeous accessories available for us.

Comment on something unique a person is wearing

This follows on from my tip above. The safest and easiest way to break the ice with a stranger is comment on something they are wearing. Examples are “I love those earings, what are they made of / where did you get them” etc. Or “that is such a great colour it is one of my favourites / it really suits you” etc.

Be honest of course, but this is so much easier for women than men. Women do this all the time, we can’t help ourselvess. It is harder for men because they are often reluctant to make such comments because they don’t want to seem to be “picking up” in a professional setting.

There are so many tips I share with you in our audio class but these simple tips are ones I really recommend you make the most of if you are a woman. They work every time and the nice part is, for women, they come very naturally.

1. “When I needed help with setting up an autoresponder with 1 shopping cart for the Giveaway Event I asked in the forum”. Read on to find out how one of our members not only offered advice but even set up her autoresponders for her.

2. “And when I wanted help with GoDaddy after I purchased my second website and put a Help Me into the Forum guess what? I received a one on one phone call from Mr Wonderful Web Hubby himself.”  Read on to find out how Douglas was able to help Margaret.

3. “ Lastly, soon after I became a wonderful web member I put a post into the forum asking for someone who I could outsource my Adwords. I didn’t really want to know how to do all that.” Read on to find out how another member not only offered advice, but set up Margaret’s campaign and of a friendship that continues.

Thanks to Charly Leetham today for taking on the challenge of sitting in the Wonderful Web Women interviewing hot seat. Today Charly interviewed me about the process I used to launch Wonderful Web Women so quickly when I  had no list, no reputation and no product (and no idea really). We covered so much, from how to find experts, how to convince them to support you, how to build your list quickly, right through to which software to use, how to create multiple products from a one hour interview and also touched on effective interview techniques. On Friday I launched Recession Proof Marketing with 4 wonderful women. We’re known collectively as “TheFab 5″.

We launched with a sold out workshop at Erina, NSW. The day was a great success with very moving testimonials from attendees, great content (REAL content), excellent food and perfectly managed presentations – except for mine…..

Picture this. My first seminar presentation in my role as Wonderful Web Woman. I had prepared a great presenation and put a lot of thought into how to really get the attention of the room. How to get them centred, enthusiastic and ready to learn. 10 minutes into the presentation, just as I was about to reveal the big secret to the quick growth of my business I looked around the room and thought “Wow, it’s working. I have the complete attention of everyone in the room, they’re actually listening to me and want to know what I have to say”.

And then it happened.

The fire alarm went off and everyone had to evacuate the building! AHHH!!!

Article: Soft Sell Internet Marketing and How to Apply it to your business

In our call today Judith Shevern introduced us to the concept of Soft Sell marketing. This approach developed as a rejection of traditional hard sell sales letters that we see so much on the internet.

Judith and her husband Jim come from a background of clinical psychology so the idea of a hard sell was totally against their ethics and so unsuitable to their target market. So they set about developing their own techniques of selling and wrote their own rules. Their style was so successful that internet legend Alex Mandossian started keeping a swipe file of their copywriting. It was that good. Now Judith and Jim share their passion and techniques through teaching others.

Here are a few tips from Judith today on how to be an effective sift seller>

Work on your own mind set first

Especially if you come from a caring profession, you will find the idea of selling unethical and in opposition to your ideal of helping your customers. This was a barrier Judith had to overcome.

Judith stressed the importance of seeing selling as a spiritual service. If you offer a service or product that improves people’s lives and you hold back from offering products or services to help them further, and explain what it is you are offering, you are actually doing a dis-service.

3 steps to take when you review your sales copy

Here are the first 3 stages you need to look at when you review your sales copy on your web site:

1. What does your customer want? Look at the number of times you say “I” compared to the number of times you say “You”. Your copy should be written so ot states respectfully What In It For Me. You can also use the words “we” to create a feeling of companionship, especially if it does involve interaction.

2. Be clear in your offering

You really need to be very clear about exactly what you are offering. Often if we have many services to offer it is tempting to put them all on the one sales letter. Your customer should know straight away if what you are offering is what they want.

3. Be clear on the benefits

Be very clear about what value you are giving your customer so they can make a decision. Often it will take many email contacts to develop a relationship with your customers.

The tip of the iceberg

I can’t possibly do justice to what Judith covered today but I hope this gives you some food for thought.
