We are looking for a person to create articles, blog posts, e-books and follow up auto-responders for our own projects and those of our clients. Usually you will be asked to re-purpose existing content (for example take a transcript of an interview and create multiple content types from it) so there is rarely the need for research on the topic.

We’re looking for someone with experience and who has a business that can grow if we send you referrals. If you give great service and value to us then we will refer you to our clients. We need to know you are serious about ghost writing as your business because we need to know you can cope with any referrals we send you and still provide great service and meet deadlines for us and them (you may be able to tell here that in the past we have referred so many people to suppliers they stopped meeting our own deadlines!).

So please, if you like the idea of writing but it is something on the side, rather than your passion, please don’t apply.

Deb had a great way of explaining the important steps you need to consider to make sure your web site provides a great buying experience for your customer. She relates it to the perfect buying experience you have when you go into a shop. I don’t know about you, but great buying experiences in shops are far less common that terrible ones.

Let’s walk through the ideal buying experience……

1. I got exactly what I was looking for immediately – no need to search around

How does this relate to your Internet business? When people come to your site, make it easy for them to find the products or services they are looking for. Sometimes people need a bit of time or more information before they buy. Make sure they get what they need – even if they don’t ask!

2. Ease of use and convenience

How does this relate to your Internet business? Is your site full of fancy bells and whistles that just slow everything down? Provide the information your visitors need to make purchasing decisions. If they have to spend more than a few seconds to find what they want, they’ll just hit their back button and try someone else.

3. Critical information was provided to help me get the most value from my purchases

How does this relate to your Internet business? Do you sell a product or service that has special care instructions? Or can you provide a ‘Quick Start Guide’ to help people start using it correctly within a few minutes of receiving it? Are there a few places people get stuck or mess up? Tell your customers up front! Help them avoid the problems and get immediate results.

4. Related products were recommended to me based on my purchases – up-sells!

How does this relate to your Internet business? Are there other products and services that your customers might benefit from as a result of their purchase? Are there critical prerequisites they need to know in order to have success with your product? Are there follow-up products that will help them after they use what they just bought from you? You’ll want to let them know what you have to offer.

5. Checking out was a breeze

How does this relate to your Internet business? Make the ‘call to action’ on your site easy to use. Are you asking them to opt in to your list? Make the opt-in form clearly visible and easy to use. Are they buying a product or service? The ‘Add to Cart’ button should be clearly visible – and it should do what it says!

6. Customer service was provided after the sale

How does this relate to your Internet business? Do you sell a product or service and find that sometimes after receiving it, people decide they really don’t want it, can’t afford it, or don’t understand it? Buyer’s remorse is all too common, and often has little to do with the value or quality of the product. If you provide followup communication with your customers, you can drastically reduce returns and complaints – and increase customer satisfaction!

7. Asked me what other products and services I might need or want.

How does this relate to your Internet business? You’ll want to start talking with your prospects and customers right away. You want to know exactly what they need and want – so you can develop it or find it, and then offer it to them.

8. Future offers were made that were of high value to me

How does this relate to your Internet business? Quite often businesses will offer ‘loss leaders’ to initially attract prospects and customers. If you are offering just one product or service, especially if your profit per sale is low, you’ll have a difficult time making your business work. Always be looking for more relevant products and services to offer to your prospects and customers – and make sure they offer great value and answer a need or want your customers have expressed.

9. The whole experience made me a customer for life and a source of new referrals

How does this relate to your Internet business? Wouldn’t you love it if your prospects & customers were also your best marketing? If they told their friends and referred them to you? And they can also become business partners with you – as affiliates – so you can have salespeople who love you, your products and your services, out there working for you. And you pay them a commission for results. Nobody on salary!

Pros: They take the money for you, affiliates go there looking for products instead of you looking for affiliates, well known and trusted, Clickbank is your customer every time so always the same nationality (this is good news if you are Australian as you don’t have to worry about GST), They pay affiliates and handle refunds, Aweber – I love them, they are so reliable.

Cons: You have to wait to get your money – money doesn’t go straight into your account,Buyers aren’t automatically added to Aweber after they buy from Clickbank, you need to give the buyer a reason to get on a follow-up list, Can only sell digital products. They have the relationship with the affiliate – you don’t have their contact details.

Frankenstein 2: Paydotcom + PayPal + Aweber + web site (prefer WordPress)

Paydotcom (has the shoppingcart, payment acceptance,  affiliate program) + Aweber handles email automation

Who does this suit: You are selling individual digital or physical products or services, mostly featured on separate sites, rather than selling many goods and services and back-end coaching on the one topic

Cons: Buyers aren’t automatically added to Aweber after they buy from Paydotcom, you need to give the buyer a reason to get on a follow-up list,You have to pay your affiliates – just more admin. Not as popular as Clickbank for affiliates. Can only sell in US dollars.

1shoppingcart (has the shopping cart, email automation, affiliate program) + PayPal takes the money

Who does this suit: You have many products and related services created under the one brand

Pros: All in one solution (except for the website), customers are automatically added to follow up emails, built in affiliate program. You can use the same system for multiple sites (but the branding must be relevant because the final payment page has just one brand), affiliates only need to join one affiliate program to promote multiple products, money goes straight into your bank account.

Cons: You have to attract your own affiliates. email program is not as reliable or well reported as Aweber, more expensive than the other Frankenstein models. You have to pay your affiliates – just more admin.

So Which ones do we use?

We actually use all combinations of these, depending on our desired outcome.

Here are some examples:

Frankenstein 1: Clickbank + Aweber + web site (prefer WordPress)

We use this for our site www. LandscapePhotoSchool.com

we use this combo for this product because it is a stand-alone product and this site truly just runs on autopilot

Frankenstein 2: Paydotcom + PayPal + Aweber + web site (prefer WordPress)

We use this for our site www.landscapephotography101.com

We use this combo for this product because we wanted to test which was better – clickbank or Paydot com for our landscape photography product. We make heaps more sales through Clickbank because it has a better market place. We keep this one going though because we like the fact that any sales we do get go straight to our bank account.

Frankenstein 3: 1shoppingcart (a.k.a. – AutoWeb Business) + PayPal +  web site (prefer WordPress)

This is the system we are using for our new web site www.WonderfulWebSolutions.com. We will be using Australian currency for this site and have decided to use a merchant account (and eWay as the payment gateway that transfers the money from the shoppingcart to the bank). This is because we will be accepting payment plans and PayPal and 1Shoppingcart combined don’t allow subscription payments (yet).

Each step is just as important as the other and under each heading I list ideas and strategies as I learn them or get a brainwave. That way, when I am looking for ideas to grow my business, I just look on the appropriate page. It also means I don’t get overwhelmed by ideas and feel pressured to do everything at once. I know where to find it.

So, what are these 8 key steps? 8 steps that you only need to make small changes to, in order to see massive results?

Over the next few articles I will expand on each of the steps but I’ll list them below. Keep these in mind when planning a project or when looking for ways to increase your profits. So here goes…

The First 8 Pages

1. The Seed / Idea

I see a business as a growing, living organism and like everything that grows, it starts with a seed. This is the most important part of a business and the one most entrepreneurs short cut. Under this heading I list ideas but also techniques to test if an idea will work. Is there a demand for my business idea?

2. Traffic

There are so many ways to drive traffic to your site. Under this heading i list all the different strategies I hear of. If I notice my traffic drops to my web site, I look under this heading and implement just one of the ideas there.

3. Convert to List

Once you get people to your web site, you need to get them to join your mailing list. Simply making small changes which increase the percentage of people who join your list, will make huge differences to your income.

4. Sales Conversion

On this page I list ideas that will make it easier for people to choose to purchase. Sales copy is the obvious one but there are heaps of other ideas you can implement quickly that can make a huge difference.

5. Increase the value of the sale

How can you get people to spend more at the time they buy? Would you like fries with that? Simply increasing the average spend for the same number of customers will have a dramatic impact on your income.

6. Increase the average number of sales per customer

On this page I list ideas of other things my customers may also want to buy. For example, ideas to increase the average amount of time a person remains a member of a membership program. member retention and additional products fall under this heading as well as lots of other strategies.

7. Decrease Costs

Not as exciting as increasing sales but often easier to do and the results can be very long term. For example I just decided to move my office back home because after decluttering, I didn’t want to leave home of a morning to go to the office. The energy is my home is just so lovely now. This saved over $700 per month which is roughly equivalent to recruiting about 15 new paying members each month.

8. Systems and Admin

Systemising repetitive tasks can save you a fortune. You can outsource tasks for much cheaper than you do them yourself. On this page I list ideas that will make my business a more streamlined operation.

Let’s get one thing straight first. You don’t make your money from selling the book. This is one of the biggest misconceptions. People like JK Rowling may but don’t count on sales to make you a fortune.

So if you don’t make your fortune from sales of the book, how do you make money?

Attract Your Ideal Customer

When you are positioned as an expert in the eyes of the public (which happens as soon as you publish a book) you stand out from the crowd.

When your ideal customer is choosing between 2 suppliers who do you think they will choose? The person with established credibility who is a recognised author or the person with no established expert status ?

Get Free Publicity For Your Business

Main stream media such as radio, TV and newspapers LOVE an author. In their eyes if you are an author you are an expert. Also, if you have contributed to a book you are TALENT. In media speak, this means you have a story to share and a depth of knowledge to make that story interesting. You can’t pay for this type of coverage.

Create products & coaching programs based on your chapter topic.

If you’ve read the book “The Secret” you will have noticed that there were many contributing authors. Rhonda Byrne owns the book but many of the individual authors have used their inclusion to really grow their businesses. Search on their names. You will find many who have created courses, tele-classes, work books, work shops, conferences etc all based on what they shared in the book. This is where the real power lies and is the topic of the coaching program run by Christine Kloser for the contributing authors of The Power of Choice Book.

Next Steps

This book is a true collaborative effort. As well as close to 50 authors contributing articles, the book will  be edited, proof read and formatted by a collaborative editing team made up of Wonderful Web Women members. So here’s the time lines so you know when the book will be available for you to gift to visitors to your website.

Now until half way through January: Editing team will review every article. If changes are needed to the article we will contact the author and advise them how to improve the article so it fits with the theme of the book. We expect every article to be submitted as we will work with each author to help them adjust their article if needed.

You can find out all about Fabienne’s system here. Read on because I will reveal a part of Fabienne’s web site I want you to visit so you can study how she puts her methods into practice in her own business. Or as Fabienne calls it “Talking the walk, rather than walking the talk” (ie, do it first then talk about it).

Pull Marketing

Fabienne refers to the concept of “pull marketing”. This means how you attract your customers to you, rather than you having to chase them. Ideal isn’t it? Here are the first steps to do this.

1. People look for solutions to problems.

You know, the sort of thing that wakes them at 3am. For Fabienne, she solves the problem of people who don’t have enough clients so they don’t have enough money coming into their business. Look at what problems your clients have that you solve.

2. Look at how you are communicating what you do

So you solve a problem your customers have but do they know that? People don’t really care what you do and what services you provide. Not really. They want to know that you are a problem solver. If you can give them the solution, then they’ll be interested in how you do it. For example, People don’t care if you are a coach who provides a certain amount of one on one coaching, work to targets, hold them accountable etc. For Fabienne, they care that she will increase the number of clients she has in the time she is working with them – guaranteed.

What solutions do you offer?

3. Your selling point may be YOU

When you are working out what sets you apart from your competitors, sometimes it will be YOU. For example, Fabienne attracts many clients because she is a mum of young children who is caring and approachable. When I started Wonderful Web Women I never thought of mentoing people myself – after all who needs another person out there teaching internet marketing? Wrong. I quickly found that people asked me to work one-on-one because of who I was, not just what I know. The lesson here? Be yourself and reinforce it in every contact and communication method you have with your prospects. When you join Fabienne’s list you will notice her audios, videos and newsletter exude her personality and often refer to her role as a mother as well as a business woman.

Today we had an interview with a difference. This week I had the honour to interview Evelyn Tian, one of the gold members of Wonderful Web Women. Last year, Evelyn was one of 5 women who won the opportunity to create a product with me. Today we created that product by recording our live interview. Build Prosperity and Strong Relationships With L.O.V.E

Evelyn Tian is a Singaporean woman living in Australia. She shared a story that started with volunteering to pack and send envelopes for the 2000 Olympics Committee here in Australia 10 years ago. That simple act of giving lead to an amazing trail of events that lead to her becoming the  African attache for the Olympics and Para-Olympics. This started Evelyn on an incredible journey to Africa for 6 months where she worked with disabled women and children, introducing wheelchair sports and fund raising for home made wheelchairs. She is now working toward helping disabled orphans in Africa.

Evelyn has an amazing ability to extend her networks and offer people the opportunity to share her journey. As she said, many people want to help but just don’t know how. One of the biggest things I got from Evelyn’s interview was the power of creating strong relationships and actively using your network to achieve huge goals while changing the lives of others for the better. Evelyn now helps individuals develop these strong relationships for personal growth as well as business growth. Here is the framework Evelyn shared with us to develop strong relationships:

L.O.V.E

L is for “Listening”: So often we don’t take the time to really listen to what people are asking and saying. Concentrate on actively listening for a strong relationship.

O is for “Overlook Little Faults”: It is often small things that people do wrong that can really damage a relationship. Do you ever find yourself building resentment over things people have done, or resent yourself because of something you have done wrong? Forgive these things and the loss of resentment will open up real opportunities in a relationship.

V is for “Voice”: Speak up and learn to say NO. You will respect yourself more and those you have a relationship with will respect you further as well.

E is for “Effort”: This is the difference between people who have great ideas and people who create success. You must make the effort to succeed in life and in your relationships.

In another article here in the blog I’ll give you the details about our new feature “rank and review resources on this site”. Here’s how you can use this new feature to get you ranking higher in the search engines with links to your site:

• Create a member profile and start providing honest and useful reviews of the interviews, videos, books and software on Wonderful Web Women. Every time you post a review the search engines will pick up these links to your web sites.
• The more active you are in the community, the higher up the list you go. So, members who have reviewed audios, products and videos and left helpful comments for other members when reviewing, go to the top of the page automatically.
• Even better, you will develop a well earned reputation for being a thoughtful reviewer and valuable member of this community.

If you have no web site, no list and don’t expect to get a web site for a while

1. At a networking event offer to send a link to a free gift valued at $47  that will help them create success (plus you will keep them advised of any other great ideas) in return for their business card. You now have permission to add them to your mailing list.
2. The file is a bit big to email as an attachment. Instead send them to to join the Wonderful Web Ideas list or to go straight to the download page.
3. Send the link to the book in an email to all your business associates (as well as your affiliate link for Wonderful Web Women). This will help position you as a person with great ideas and resources so when you are ready to build your mailing list they will want to join.

If you want to build a list from scratch and have a web site (or will soon)

2. Edit the web pages I have created for you to personalise them (or copy and paste into your existing site)
3. Sign up for an aweber account and add the sign up box to the web page provided
4. Let everyone you know about your gift and send them to the opt in page so they can claim their gift
5. Start creating a relationship with people who join by emailing them with discussion on the book and the parts you really liked.

Article: Soft Sell Internet Marketing and How to Apply it to your business

In our call today Judith Shevern introduced us to the concept of Soft Sell marketing. This approach developed as a rejection of traditional hard sell sales letters that we see so much on the internet.

Judith and her husband Jim come from a background of clinical psychology so the idea of a hard sell was totally against their ethics and so unsuitable to their target market. So they set about developing their own techniques of selling and wrote their own rules. Their style was so successful that internet legend Alex Mandossian started keeping a swipe file of their copywriting. It was that good. Now Judith and Jim share their passion and techniques through teaching others.

Here are a few tips from Judith today on how to be an effective sift seller>

Work on your own mind set first

Especially if you come from a caring profession, you will find the idea of selling unethical and in opposition to your ideal of helping your customers. This was a barrier Judith had to overcome.

Judith stressed the importance of seeing selling as a spiritual service. If you offer a service or product that improves people’s lives and you hold back from offering products or services to help them further, and explain what it is you are offering, you are actually doing a dis-service.

3 steps to take when you review your sales copy

Here are the first 3 stages you need to look at when you review your sales copy on your web site:

1. What does your customer want? Look at the number of times you say “I” compared to the number of times you say “You”. Your copy should be written so ot states respectfully What In It For Me. You can also use the words “we” to create a feeling of companionship, especially if it does involve interaction.

2. Be clear in your offering

You really need to be very clear about exactly what you are offering. Often if we have many services to offer it is tempting to put them all on the one sales letter. Your customer should know straight away if what you are offering is what they want.

3. Be clear on the benefits

Be very clear about what value you are giving your customer so they can make a decision. Often it will take many email contacts to develop a relationship with your customers.

I can’t possibly do justice to what Judith covered today but I hope this gives you some food for thought.
